Narendra Modi, Creative Disruptor, book

PC: The Indian Express

Since PM Modi has arrived at power at the centre; numerous books have been peened on him by his admirers as well as by critics. “Narendra Modi: Creative Disruptor — The Maker of New India” is the latest of additions in the books tally on the distinguished leader ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The book, written by senior journalist and former head of BJP’s Intellectual Cell, R Balashankar, provides a detailed account of Modi’s tenure as the Prime Minister of India.

According to an Eenadu India report, while explaining the creative title of the book, R Balashankar, said, “The meaning of the title is that PM is reforming the country and also taking it forward. The policies that he changes, the reforms that he has taken up, it are indicating that the old system is being replaced by the new system. That is why I used the word, “Creative Disruptor” because he is disrupting for the sake of creating something new.”

There is a term called ‘creative destruction’, it defines a process in which something new brings about the end of whatever existed before.  The term is employed in many fields including economics, politics, administration, corporate governance, technology, marketing etc. For example, smartphones killed the market of cell phones, landlines, MP3 players, calculators, wrist watches and many other things. In a similar fashion, the rise of PM Modi in Indian politics as a leader having pan-India appeal eliminated the usual market of many old and useless ideas, and narratives. PM Modi’s policies and ideas have caused a catalytic change in the economy, society, culture, politics, and ultimately in the country. The old system is being replaced by a much better and advance new system.

Atal Pension Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfers, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, LED bulbs distribution, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Suraksha Bima Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Atal Tinkering Labs programme are changing the lives of a large number of people in many ways. These schemes and policies have brought millions of people into the mainstream of development and helped in increasing the clout of the BJP beyond its traditional urban middle- class vote base. As the result of the growing popularity of PM Modi, Nehruvian Secularism is also dying its death. Gandhi family has been compelled to resort to temple runs and accept the ‘janeudhari’ status along with gotra lineage claims. The Congress has been made to dilute its ‘secularism’ completely in order to increase its appeal among the majority community. So, it already seems to have lost the war of narrative. This is a total and complete ideological victory for the BJP and it has been made possible because of the PM Modi and his image of a ‘Creative Disruptor’. Hence, it is perfectly apt to call PM Modi, a ‘creative disruptor’.

The book also discusses all the policies and schemes launched by the Modi government in great detail. R Balashankar said, “He is trying to give a new direction and dimension to the welfare schemes in the country, instead of going after the populist schemes. This book has a lot of insights into the world of Narendra Modi and how he has transformed India in the last 5 years. He is very sympathetic towards the public issues.”

R Balashankar has dedicated an entire chapter on Shashi Tharoor and claims that the Congress leader has a “Fascination and an unconcealed admiration” for PM Modi. Balashankar says he decided to write the chapter “Tharoor’s Modi Obsession” after reading Tharoor’s recent book “The Paradoxical Prime Minister: Narendra Modi and His India”. According to him, Tharoor has “Not said anything new or what we have not heard about Modi. This also gives Modi the famous negative propaganda on which he thrives”.

In recent times, it has been seen that PM Modi has got laurels and appreciation from his political opponents also.

Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram also appreciated PM Modi and called him the ‘most dominant political leader’ after the BJP’s landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections. In his columns in the Indian Express, Chidambaram said, “The man of the moment is Mr. Narendra Modi. He has convincingly demonstrated that his appeal is pan-Indian. It extends from Gujarat and Goa to Assam and Manipur. After slipping badly in Bihar, he has regained his prime position as a master of communication.” There are many politicians in the opposition parties who secretly admire the hard work that PM Modi is doing to spread the clout of the BJP in the nation.

The book has a foreword authored by the BJP President Amit Shah. He writes, “This book is a useful compendium on how and what difference the Modi government has brought about to transform the fundamental policy outlook and introduce advanced thinking to modernise the system.”

The book “Narendra Modi: Creative Disruptor — The Maker of New India” addresses various topics including GST, demonetisation, Rafale, lynching, intolerance and many others in a most succinct manner.
