In a shocking incident, Aam Admi Party leader Somnath Bharti has stooped to a new low as he told a female TV anchor to ‘become a prostitute’ and accused her of being a ‘broker’ for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Bharti was in conversation with an anchor from Sudarshan News. On being asked a tough question Bharti lost his temper and asked her to ‘stop doing bh*dwagiri’ and become a ‘prostitute’. He was speaking about the incident in which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was attacked with chilli powder by an anonymous person at the Delhi Secretariat.

Even as the anchor asked Bharti to maintain the sanctity of the programme and apologize for using vulgar language, he further accused her of being a ‘broker’ or ‘middleman’ for the Bhartiya Janta party.
In his defense he tweeted, “Sincere appeal 2 .@SudarshanNewsTV is nt 2 use publicity stunts like these 4 gaining TRP.plz treat matters which concern our country n capital with utmost sincerity. By releasing 20 sec out of 7.33 min u hv again proven 2b BJP’s tool. No wonder AAP leaders refuse to give u byte!”

It seems Somnath Bharti forgot that he is also a Member of Legislative Assembly from Delhi and he represents the people. Being seated at a position and giving such lewd statements is something that is unacceptable by every standard. Plus, even if 20 seconds of his statement are being cropped and shared on social media, he should understand that when one holds an office of such high authority, every single word that one utters must be well thought out so that a controversy is not created out of it.

What turned out to be more shameful was seeing a pro-AAP woman coming out in support of Bharti and making mockery of herself as she went on to tweet:

Also, this is not the first time that Bharti has found himself rounded with controversy, in 2014 Bharti had allegedly led a mob that assaulted an African woman. A Delhi court had then said, “Let a notice…be framed against the accused Somnath Bharti for causing simple hurt to complainant Mukoko Misa Tresar in prosecution of the common object of that assembly of which he was part of and leading, for rioting and for abetment by instigation”.

In September 2015, Bharti was arrested on the charges of domestic abuse after his wife alleged him of torturing her physically and mentally.

In addition to Somnath Bharti many party leaders and post holders of AAP, have also been accused of harassing women. MLA Amanatullah Khan was alleged of sexual harassment by his own sister-in-law. Investigating the case a senior police officer had said, “Khan had put pressure on her (Khan’s sister-in-law) to get into physical relationship with him”.

If this is the approach of Aam Aadmi Party and its leaders towards women, then its no wonder that women feel unsafe in Delhi.
