With elections round the corner, Congress President Rahul Gandhi comes out with different methods to woo the Hindu community. This time, he has again made a big new revelation about his ‘Gotra’ (lineage) at Pushkar Sarovar in Rajasthan. While offering prayers at Pushkar Sarovar he said that his ‘Gotra’ is ‘Kaul Dattatreya’.
It is not a new phenomenon, as soon as the election approaches politicians tend to appease the masses by portraying themselves as secular. But when it comes to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, he simply tends to confuse people by switching his religious affinity of being a non-Hindu to a Hindu.
As soon as the Gujarat Elections concluded, Rahul was on a spree of visiting temples round the country. First he went to Kailash Mansarovar and now with elections at Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, he seems to be on a mission of visiting various temples of these states.
The Congress President while on a visit to the Somnath temple himself raised the question regarding his religion. Now in Rajasthan when the election campaign is in the final phase, Rahul seems to have thought that it is politically important to make his own lineage i.e. Gotra public.
Rahul Gandhi, who is campaigning in Rajasthan, worshipped at Pushkar Sarovar and when Rajnath Kaul, the priest asked him about his ‘Gotra’ he said that he belongs to ‘Kaul Dattatreya’. It is also important to note that the two priests who were helping Rahul in offering prayers were ‘Deenanath Kaul’ and ‘Rajnath Kaul’. Now the question arises on the timing that Rahul Gandhi chose to make such statement that too in the poll-bound state of Rajasthan.
The controversy over the Congress Preisdent Rahul Gandhi’s religion had actually started since his visit to the Somnath temple. In November last year, Rahul Gandhi had visited Somnath temple with Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel. Here, Rahul Gandhi’s entry was made in a non-Hindu register. The Congress Media Coordinator signature was found alongside the names of Rahul Gandhi and Ahmed Patel.
Moreover, it is clearly written on the Board hanged in the premises of Somanth Temple, ‘It’s a Hindu Temple and a Non-Hindu; only after taking permission can enter the premises’. Added to this, non-Hindus have to fill in the register before entering the temple. The reason for the controversy is simple Rahul Gandhi entered Somnath Temple as a Non-Hindu.
After this controversy, Congress came to rescue as Randeep Surjewala said, “Rahul Gandhi is not just a Hindu but a janeudhari (A sacred thread worn by Hindu men) Hindu”.
With the commencement of campaigning for Rajasthan elections, Rahul appeared at Ujjain’s Mahakal temple and then the Bhartiya Janta Party asked Rahul about his lineage to which the whole Congress party kept mum.
Now when the election campaigning approaches its last phase, Rahul Gandhi has stirred another controversy by claiming that he belongs to the Kaul Dattatreya gotra. Nevertheless, people very well understand that it is nothing but Congress party’s cheap tactics in order to portray their leader as staunch Hindu.
