On Monday, PM Modi inaugurated infrastructure projects worth Rs 2,413 crore in his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi. The inaugurated projects include an inland multi-modal terminal, a sewage treatment plant, the ring road, and a national highway (NH 56). He also attacked the previous governments for failing to develop the historic city. PM Modi said, “Today is a historic day. Today Varanasi and the country (as a whole) is witnessing a development that should have taken place decades ago. But that did not happen.”
The 16.55 km Varanasi Ring Road Phase-I has been completed at a cost of Rs 759.36 crore, while the work of four-laning and construction of 17.25 km Babatpur-Varanasi road on NH-56 has cost Rs 812.59 crore. The Ring Road will provide a way for traffic on NH 56 (Lucknow-Varanasi), NH 233 (Azamgarh-Varanasi), NH 29 (Gorakhpur-Varanasi) and Ayodhya. Along with decongesting the city, it will reduce the traffic and pollution. The Babatpur Airport highway will link Varanasi to the airport and will spread up to Jaunpur, Sultanpur and Lucknow. With a flyover at Harhua and an ROB at Tarna, the road will reduce the travel time from Varanasi to the airport.

PM Modi referring to the multi-modal terminal — which is the first in the country — said that the people would witness a sea change in the transport sector. He also said that newly inaugurated port along with connecting Varanasi to Bay of Bengal would also boost transportation and business activities. He said, “It is an example of ‘New India’. Be it farm produce or small scale industries, everything will be benefited.”

PM Modi also attacked opposition for wasting crores of money in the name of cleaning Ganga. After inaugurating a sewage treatment plant of 140 million litres per day capacity, PM Modi said, “Our government is not flowing money into Ganga but is cleaning the filth that got accumulated over the years.”
Making Kashi cleaner and healthier through sewerage projects which will have a long-term impact on the city and surrounding areas.

Since, PM Modi became MP from Varanasi; there has been a lot of development work taking place in his constituency. Electricity supply has improved a lot. Varanasi’s overhead cables are thing of past now. In PM Modi’s constituency, ghats are now cleaner and attract more visitors. PM Modi himself participated in cleanliness drive at Jagannath Gali near Assi Ghat. Special focus has been laid on cleanliness as places for sanitation and public bathrooms have been constructed. New and proper bus stops have also been constructed in the city. The air services and facilities for travellers have been improved at the Babatpur airport. Modernization of Manduadih Railway station is an evidence for this. Manduadih is no less than a smart railway station with all sorts of modern facilities. Modernization of Varanasi Cantt Railway is also in full progress. Special trains like Mahamana express and ‘Palace on wheels’ trains have also been started from Varanasi. In Varanasi, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of the cancer research institute and has already inaugurated the Trauma centre. All these developmental works are not just benefiting Varanasi but have also been beneficial for the neighboring districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Varanasi has become a centre of attraction nationally as well as internationally. Varanasi is going through a transformation with statistics showing that in the last four years, number of tourists visiting the city has increased by 20 per cent.

PM Modi has done hundreds of development works to transform his constituency- Varanasi- in just 4.5 years. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi along with his entire dynasty failed to change the face of dynasty’s stronghold, Amethi. Amethi has been the epicenter/ stronghold of this dynasty for years. The Nehru-Gandhi family has occupied the Amethi constituency for almost 30 years out of 38 years since 1980. However, Nehru-Gandhi family has prospered in terms of power and financial assets all this while, Amethi on the other hand, suffered badly. In fact, in 2013 Sonia Gandhi became the 12th richest political leader in the world. Despite being a ‘VIP constituency’, Amethi has remained in a miserable condition. Rahul Gandhi won from the constituency at a time when the entire nation discarded the Congress. However, he has remained ungrateful and has done absolutely nothing to bring about any change in the lives of people of Amethi. Rahul Gandhi’s constituency still remains one of the most backward constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. To expect Rahul Gandhi to change the face of the country is a far flung thought given that he failed to do anything productive in Amethi itself in more than 10 years. Compare this to the stupendous work done by ‘Kaamdaar’ in Varanasi in last 4.6 years. With his work, he has proved that people of the country placed trust on the right person to lead the nation forward.
