In what must have caught his leftist liberal opponents by surprise, Prime Minister Modi today made a bold statement as he came down heavily on the urban naxals. For the first time, Prime Minister Modi publicly denounced the “urban naxals”. He was speaking at an election rally in Chhattisgarh when he mounted an attack against the urban naxals. Prime Minister Modi came down on the eco-system of the Maoists and naxals (better known as “urban naxals”) for spreading hatred in the society and inciting youngsters and ruining their lives while enjoying luxury and opulent lives for themselves.

He said, “Urban Maoists live in air-conditioned surroundings, move around in big cars and their children study abroad, but they ruin the lives of our poor Adivasi youth here through remote control. Why is Congress supporting these Urban Maoists?”

This statement by PM Modi is going to have a significant impact and is most likely to be seen as a corroboration of the claims of involvement urban naxals that the security forces have been making. This will, in particular vindicate the Pune police which has been fighting tooth and nail in order to charge those who had been arrested in connection with the Bhima Koregaon violence case. The Pune police had come under severe criticism from the leftist liberal cabal for its action but now that even PM Modi has come out criticising urban naxals for their insidious acts, Pune police would also feel emboldened. This also comes as a shot in the arm for the security forces which had launched an all-out assault against the naxals, including urban naxals. The NIA and other agencies have been clamping down on the urban naxals which has yielded positive results for them in the past. The fact remains that the core naxals are now feeling the heat and their cadres are almost in total disarray. In fact, naxalism is on the verge of extinction even as the security forces have cracked down in their backyard in a big way. A spate of surrenders by the naxalites shows that naxalism is losing steam not only at the ground level but on an ideological front too. And now the security forces are required to crack down on the urban naxals as well. In such a background, PM Modi’s public condemnation of the Maoist ecosystem comes as a huge boost.

This also goes on to show that PM Modi is not going to compromise with issues concerning national security, no matter what. When it comes to safeguarding national interest and ensuring national security he seems to care little about political opposition and anti-Modi propaganda. He has what it takes to call a spade a spade. And this is in total contrast to the attitude of the opposition in general and the Congress in particular. Prime minister Modi also minced no words in criticising the Congress for its sympathetic attitude towards the urban naxals and said, “I urge the people of Bastar to teach a fitting lesson to the Congress leaders, who on one hand try to shield the urban Maoists, and in Chhattisgarh, they speak about freeing the state from Maoists.”

He also said that a brave and innocent DD cameraman was killed by Maoists and recently valiant jawans were also martyred in an encounter with Maoists, and wondered that for the Congress party these Maoists are revolutionaries?

It is indeed deplorable how some sections of the political spectrum have been spineless enough to sympathize with urban maoists in order to make petty political gains. However, this bold attack that PM Modi has mounted on urban naxals is a historic moment that will encourage the security forces to take on these mischievous elements with newfound energy and vigor.
