Kejriwal leaves for Dubai even as Delhi reels under smog

Kejriwal, Dubai, pollution, Delhi

In a show of absolute total apathy towards the people of Delhi, its chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has left the city and embarked on a family trip to Dubai even as the city is breathing ‘hazardous’ air. Delhi has been likened to a “gas chamber” for the second year in a row even as the government has failed to curb the rising pollution levels which have engulfed the city in a thick blanket of smog.

It is clear that even Kejriwal seems to be troubled by the seemingly uncontrollable pollution levels in the capital which are taking a toll on the health of the people living in the city. Therefore, the Delhi chief minister must have decided to leave the city for the time being and escape from the unbearable conditions. However, it seems that he forgot his duties towards those who elected him to power, or more likely deliberately refrained from discharging his duties. Instead of taking pre-emptive and corrective measures, Kejriwal has chosen to leave the people of Delhi to fend for themselves.

The BJP has come down heavily on the AAP and Kejriwal for his insensitive and apathetic decision to depart for Dubai even as the people of Delhi face an uphill task. Leader of opposition in the Delhi assembly, Vijender Gupta questioned the secrecy behind the visit and said, “Last week, Satyendar Jain had gone to Dubai. Within a span of 10 days, CM Kejriwal has gone to Dubai. AAP’s silence proves that there is something wrong. It is clear that there is a hidden agenda behind this visit.” Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari also criticised Kejriwal severely for his insensitive decision. He alleged that Kejriwal was not serious about the precarious situation created by high pollution levels in Delhi and tweeted, “Delhi is blanketed by toxic smoke but Kejriwal is on a tour of Dubai with his family.” He also alleged, “converting black money received as political donations into white money”.

It was already crystal clear that Kejriwal is an inefficient administrator and is clueless about how to go about his job or how to discharge his duties. But the insensitive move to leave for Dubai even as the capital struggles under severe pollution levels shows that he is not only inefficient, but also an insensitive and apathetic politician who does not care about those who brought him to power. It goes on to show that as far as the AAP is concerned, gaining power was its sole objective and it couldn’t care less about the very people who voted him to power. Once, it has stormed to power it is least bothered about the welfare of the people of Delhi and the alarming situation created by the thick blanket of toxic smog that is taking a toll on the health of the people living in the city and the nearby areas day in and day out.

For the record, this is not for the first time that Kejriwal has left Delhi in the middle of a crisis. In 2016, Kejriwal had left the city even as there was an influx in dengue cases in Delhi and a constitutional crisis even as the Delhi High Court had held that Lt. Governor was the administrative head of Delhi. Kejriwal has already plummeted in popularity after his pathetic administrative track record after storming to power in the capital and now this apathetic attitude might just prove to be the last straw.
