The much-touted Jawaharlal Nehru University is once again in the news, but this time for the right reason. The JNU Executive Council has given their nod for building a statue of Swami Vivekanand in the administrative block of the University. As confirmed by local sources, reported in a CNN News 18 report, a statue of Swami Vivekanand will be erected in front of the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru in the administrative block.

The installation has already been completed and the inauguration is set to take place in January 2019. A great well timed move in the red bastion of Delhi.
Earlier in an interview with the Indian Express, the Executive Council has confirmed the same. To quote them, “For a more pleasing look, it has been decided by the competent authority that a statue of suitable height and size of a historically important person like Swami Vivekanand — whose contribution to the nation building is universally acknowledged — may be erected with proper elevated platform, stone pathways, benches, lights and interconnected works, including public utilities, etc.”
This is a major development in JNU, even if from the viewpoint of just a statue. We’re not unaware of the rabid den of leftists that JNU has been since time immemorial. With a few exceptions like Aung San Suu Kyi, Nirmala Sitharaman, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar apart, there hasn’t been a soul from JNU who hasn’t spoken ill will of either India or the majority community of Sanatanis, in a bid to further their cause of communism, the main theme of the entire university.
Besides, the installation of the statue of Swami Vivekananda is something that not only JNU but also every university in India deserves. Born as Narendranath Dutta, Swami Vivekanand, an ex-barrister, took the mantle of his guru, Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa’s teachings and spread the charm and aura of Sanatan Dharma throughout the world.
His speech about Sanatan Dharma at the World Parliament of Religions, held in Chicago in 1893 is still the stuff of legends, which also proves how essential has Sanatan Dharma been towards the cause of mankind for ages.
Needless to say, the creation of a statue of such a legendary man in a rabid leftist den wouldn’t go down well with the nexus of left-liberal student union leaders and professors, who cried hoarsely on this decision.
To quote the statements of JNU Students Union and JNU Teachers Association, “We ask as to what is the source of funds for the construction of the statue? They said, on one hand, the varsity does not have money for library funds and for disbursal of the Merit-cum-Mean Scholarship to students and on the other hand it is busy in constructing statues.”
We’re not completely surprised either, for the JNU Students Union and the professors hate anything that is even remotely anti-Marxist or pro India, for that matter. Surprised at their absurd question, the Executive Council shot back at them, saying that there has been no reduction in the funds for the library and that it has only reduced in terms of regular contributions.
To be honest, the installation of Swami Vivekanand’s statue is a small, but important change in the aesthetics of JNU. We hope that it is also relieved of the muck that has been existent in the name of left-liberal ideals. On a lighter note, I suggest the Executive Council also have some reserve stock of Burnol ready, given the massive burns that the JNU mafia will have on witnessing the statue of someone other than their beloved Mao or Lenin.
