If we could paraphrase an iconic dialogue from the rant of Rajat in ‘Pyaar ka Punchnama’, we’d say, ‘They say that behind every successful organization there is a woman, true, but they never tell you that behind every unsuccessful organization there is a woman as well.’
No, we’re not being anti woman here, but to be honest, in our case, it is a woman who orchestrated the downfall of a political party that was once touted to be an undisputed power in India, both on ground and on social media. Yes, we’re talking about the woman who orchestrated Congress’ downfall on social media; Kannada actress and current social media head of Congress, Divya Spandana aka Ramya.
Divya’s case is a classic testimony of how she sank an already sinking ship of the Congress party. Ever since Congress lost the Lok Sabha elections badly in 2014, they had identified a major reason for the same : lack of presence on social media. In a bid to counter the growing popularity of PM Modi, Congress decided to increase its base on the social media, and it was with this intent that they inducted Divya Spandana as the head of their IT cell in May 2017, and it was then that their fortunes turned for the worse.
While there is no doubt about that that Divya brought the glamour quotient with her, and started working on the popularity of Rahul Gandhi, her means to do so weren’t necessarily noble. From activating bots in order to increase the follower count on Twitter, to peddling loads of fake news in his favor, you name it and Divya has done it.
If this wasn’t enough, Divya took the sycophant quotient to a nauseating level. We are no stangers to her obsession with the current Congress President Rahul Gandhi. However, this has often turned into extreme contempt for the opposition, with some of her tweets even going beyond the acceptable limit of criticism. Following are some of her enlightened tweets and incidents that even took a pro separatist, anti India turn, just for the sake of opposition :

The draconian arrests of Sudha Bharadwaj, Arun Fereira and Vernon Gonsalves & other human rights activists further substantiate the anti-democratic actions of the ruling govt. PM Modi’s ‘New India’ is nothing but a dictatorship wrapped in expensive advertising. #BhimaKoregaon

Going by these tweets, it is certain that Divya Spandana has a really diverse profile when it comes to tweeting against anything that is even remotely pro-India. From sharing links of dubious websites like IndiaScoops to prove that Rafale is a scam, to referring to PM Modi as a ‘bird dropping’, Divya Spandana has set the standards of political discourse to an abysmal low.
Ironically, her women empowerment went for a toss, when her fellow IT cell member Chirag Pattnaik was accused of sexual harassment. Not only did she mock the victim, she also tried to suppress the case. Is this not hypocrisy, Miss Divya? Oh, we forget that she is the same woman, who used to be vocal about her support for Vijay Mallya and his IPL team ‘Royal Challengers Bangalore’ and at the same time, demonized BJP for allegedly helping in the escape of the fugitive, when he refused to settle his outstanding dues..
To be honest, Divya Spandana has contributed a huge chunk in the deterioration of Congress, especially on the social media front. From peddling fake news to abusing the Prime Minister for mere brownie points, she has done more damage to Congress than anyone else on social media. She is however only second in the list of people responsible for Congress’ demise, as Rahul Gandhi still stands firm at the top spot.
