In what must have come as a severe shock for the leftist liberal cabal, the BJP has been elected from all six local bodies in Kathua. Congress has been thoroughly defeated. Even those who won on Congress tickets deserted it and sought refuge in BJP, a massive blow to the grand old party. What is important to note here is the fact that earlier this year, the entire cabal and the Congress cronies had made all attempts to spin off the brutal rape and murder case in Kathua bringing in a religious angle. They tried making a bogeyman out of the BJP, but it seems that this organised campaign has not been able to create much of an electoral impact.

Four councillors who had won on Congress tickets have joined the BJP. These four councillors along with their followers and two independent councillors joined the party, in the presence of the state BJP president Ravinder Rana. The BJP had already won from 16 wards in the civic polls. And now with another 6 councilors joining the BJP, the party is in a very strong position- having attained two-thirds majority in the local body. It now enjoys a decision making position.
Speaking to MyNation, BJP state president Rana said, “They were feeling suffocated in the Congress as that party is struggling to find its base in the Jammu region as well. These councillors have won because of their own credibility and now they have joined the BJP.” This goes on to show the general perception in favour of the saffron party and how the Congress failed to keep its own house in order. Union minister Jitendra Singh represents the Lok Sabha consituency in which Kathua falls. Even as the BJP strengthened its position in the municipality, Singh made it clear that this was a big win for the saffron party and said, “This is a reaffirmation of the support of the people to the policies of the Narendra Modi-led government in building a new India where there is all-round development and aspirations of our youth are met.” He added, “This is also a stamp of approval for the various local development works we have undertaken in the last four years. People have rejected the communal and divisive politics of the Congress and its affiliates, which tried to portray the people of the region in poor light not just in the country but also internationally.” Therefore, Singh took a dig at the Congress and its cronies for their shameful politics around the Kathua gang rape and murder case, when the heinous crime was given a communal colour and the people of the entire region were shown in a poor light.
What must have flummoxed the Congress and its ecosystem is the fact that the Lakhanpur area, that had witnessed the brutal rape and murder case earlier this year, is represented by a BJP-backed Gujjar Muslim. Despite all efforts by the news traders and the pseudo-liberals to paint the BJP in a bad light over the heinous crime and give a communal colour to the entire incident, the BJP is represented in the area by a Gujjar Muslim. It also shows that notwithstanding all their efforts, BJP’s enemies have not been able to pit the Muslims of the region against the BJP. In fact, the party is a popular choice among the Muslims in the area on the basis of the development work done in the constituency by the saffron party.
