Statue of Unity: Three shades of critics and their baseless criticism

sardar patel, statue of unity

PC: India Today

The critics of the Statue of Unity have been vocal since the commencement of the project but as soon as PM Modi unveiled the Statue of Unity, a 182-metre structure built as a tribute to India’s first deputy prime minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel today on his birth anniversary, these voices turned into cacophony. The very first objection which the cabal raised was that of ‘Why Patel, why not Nehru’– Coming from the Congressis who hate everything and everyone not associated with Nehru and his dynasty.

The cabal strongly believes that India came into existence after Nehru wrote ‘Discovery of India’.  Well, the answer of Cabal’s question is that Patel is the tallest leader of India. He is the nation builder. He is the one who unified the country when Nehru was just content with power grab. But the Congress party suppressed his legacy in order to glorify a particular family. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and other leaders of tall stature even within the Congress were systematically sidelined by the party in order to maintain the importance of the Nehru-Gandhi lineage in the country. The Congress party in its more than sixty years of rule, only projected the members of Nehru-Gandhi family- Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi– as national icons. The party highlighted the contribution of only these three leaders at the cost of undermining many other stalwart leaders of the Congress. There are lots of properties, statues and parks dedicated to these three leaders. The BJP, on the other hand, has always applauded the efforts of national icons rather than just appreciating the party icons. This is exactly why the BJP constructed the statue of Sardar Patel and not the Congress as it should have.

Sardar Patel played the pivotal role in integrating Indian states. The indomitable man single handedly integrated 562 princely states with the Union of India. He is the “Architect of Modern India.” However, only a miniscule minority knows about his contributions. It’s not their fault. Those who ruled the country for more than sixty years wanted to keep people unaware about the contribution of such a great person. Now, the incumbent government is working in the direction to make people aware about ideas, philosophy and contributions of Sardar Patel. What BJP doing right now is a sort of ‘historical rehabilitation.’ Now, the cabal is unable to digest the fact that Patel is being portrayed as bigger than Nehru.

‘There is no difference between PM Modi and Mayawati in terms of statue politics’- Peddled by the ‘intellectual’ mafia.

Well, there is a huge difference but the self-declared intellectuals cannot discern it. Only for people like these Nassim Nicholas Taleb coined the term ‘Intellectual-Yet-Idiot’ (IYI). Mayawati wasted crores of taxpayers’ money for sculpturing statue of herself, her party symbol and her political mentor. Statues of Ambedkar were never a subject of criticism. She was doing party publicity in the name of Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. Mayawati constructed statues of her and her party symbol in order to satisfy her ego and political campaigning. Intentions matter. On the other hand, BJP’s objective behind the construction of Statue of Unity is driven by popular demand and to correct the wrongs of history by giving the rightful place to national heroes which they rightfully deserve. The BJP is working in the direction to accord the right place to the makers of independent India. The Congress party ignored and suppressed the contribution of these makers of India in order to promote and favor Nehru dynasty. The BJP has not wasted taxpayers’ money in constructing its party symbol- Lotus- or erecting the statue of PM Modi. The BJP did not splurge the taxpayers’ money to satisfy its ego while Mayawati did.

‘The money could have been used to build hospitals or schools’- The wanna be intellectuals and ‘Conan the Humanitarians’

The same argument should be made for the memorials and parks dedicated to the members of the Nehru-Gandhi family including several in the hearts of Delhi. According to this argument, Raj Ghat and Shakti Sthal should be used for better purposes such as Hospital, schools, colleges etc. But so-called intellectuals never apply this logic to memorials dedicated to the members of Nehru-Gandhi family because it doesn’t suit their nefarious agenda. All the economic concerns are reserved for one particular statue that of statue of Sardar Patel.

As far as the statue of Sardar Patel is concerned, a nation is as good as the ideals and leaders it follows. A statue of ‘Iron Man of India’ would inspire the minds of generations in a positive way. For long, India has been following the wrong leaders, and their wrong and corrupted ideals. Patel’s legacy is richer than any other leader in the independent history of India. People would learn about his heroic personality, achievements, contributions, and sacrifices made by him for this great nation called India. At a time when ‘Breaking India’ forces are trying their level best to divide India and Indians, this statue of great leader would keep on inspiring us to keep India and its people united.

The Congress ecosystem tried their level best to systematically erase Patel from National conscience but the Statue of Unity has given a major setback to their nefarious efforts. It is also a giant step in the direction to establish the legacy of real founding father in nation’s conscience. No hospital or school can bring the sense of self-respect to the nation, only the feeling that we are following the right leaders and right ideals can do that. The aim of Statue of Unity is precisely that.
