There is a lot of fuss going around over sending CBI director, Alok Verma, on a leave. Lawyer Prashant Bhushan declared that he will take legal route against Central government’s order. While speaking to India Today, Prashant Bhushan said, “Sacking and removal of CBI director is totally illegal. We will challenge it soon in Supreme Court. He has a fixed tenure and only the same committee that appointed him could remove him prematurely, if any disciplinary issues are found. The committee was to ensure that the position stays away from government powers”.
Such strong support extended by Bhushan to Alok Verma at all the levels is mind numbing, as he was the one who had gone to the Supreme Court, against the appointment of Alok Verma as the CBI director. However, the SC refused to interfere in the matter and it also declined to entertain the demand by an NGO to disclose the minutes of meeting, where the decision to appoint Alok Verma as the CBI chief was taken. A bench comprising justices Kurian Joseph and AM Khanwilkar observed, “It (direction to call for minutes of the meeting) is not within the ambit of this writ petition. As far as this writ petition is concerned, it is over now.”
Now, Prashant Bhushan has knocked the doors of the SC, this time to question the removal of the very same officer, whose appointment he vehemently opposed. He is not the only one who has taken a complete 180 degree turn as far as appointment and removal of Alok Verma is concerned.
The Congress’ leader of party in the Lok Sabha , Mallikarjun Kharge is also in the same bandwagon. He was a part of the three-member selection committee comprising the PM and CJI to choose Alok Verma as the next CBI Director. However, Kharge wasn’t convinced with Verma’s name, and later sent a three page long dissent note to PM Modi. Kharge said, “It is incumbent on this committee that the candidate who outranks other candidates on the parameters of experience in the field of anti-corruption and integrity must be accorded highest preference.” Kharge supported R.K Dutta’s name for the post.
Kharge when saw that despite his dissent, the committee is going ahead with Verma’s selection then he had some sharp remarks for the PM and the CJI, he said “It thus gives rise to apprehensions that the process of selecting the director, CBI, has been vitiated and is being manipulated to pre-empt the decision to be arrived at in the meeting of the selection committee”.
Now, Kharge has again authored a letter to PM Modi, in which he has raised objection against the removal of Alok Verma as CBI director. In his letter Kharge also said, “The only plausible explanation for this desperate and hasty move is an attempt to scuttle the ongoing investigations into the special director’s cases and other cases that might cause significant embarrassment to your government.”
It seems now Kharge strongly believes that an inexperienced Verma has magically matured and is now experienced and capable enough to continue as the CBI director.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi also extended his support to Alok Verma and like always, made no sense.

Rahul Gandhi who is now using removal of Alok Verma from the post of CBI chief as fuel to drive his nefarious political agenda is not even aware of the fact that Alok Verma was working closely with A K Sharma. Well, that is just another day for the beloved prince of the dynasty. What is hilarious is that the ‘loyal Lutyens’ media has no option but to keep projecting Rahul Gandhi as their own, desi Sherlock. Ever since Rahul Gandhi made his account on twitter, he has made it a point to keep the masses thoroughly entertained with his conspiracy theories, that he dreams of when he gets up, at night, every morning.
The most baffling stand was however taken by Subramanian Swamy, back in 2016, Asthana was an honest officer for Subramanian Swamy.

Now after Verma has been removed from his post of CBI chief, some people have made him an anti-corruption crusader. As mentioned above, these are very same people who had raised objections against his appointment and also maintained that he was ‘inexperienced’ in investigating corruption cases. The hypocrisy and absurdity level of cabal is really appalling. They are now backing the same person, they publicly loathed just two years ago, all because of their collective hatred for PM Modi.
