On Tuesday, Parvez Parvaz- an ex-journalist and activist were arrested in Gorakhpur on charges of gang rape. Additional SP, City- Vinay Kumar Singh- said, “The Gorakhpur police arrested Parvez late Tuesday night from Kotwali area of the city and produced him today before a local court, which sent him to jail.”

As per Indian Express reports, Shalini Singh, investigating officer of the case and SHO of the mahila police station said, “On June 4, a 40-year-old woman had got a case lodged against Parvez Parvaz and one Jumman alleging gang rape at Rajghat police station. She had alleged that she had gone to Jumman’s house on June 3, where he and Parvez raped her.” Shalini Singh also said that a medical examination had confirmed sexual assault on the victim.

SHO Shalini Singh also said, “In her statement recorded before the magistrate, the victim reiterated the allegation of gangrape by the two named accused. The arrest was made on the basis of evidences collected against Parvez. We are searching for another accused, Jumman.” She also added that the case was handed over to her on August 2; earlier the case was being probed at Rajghat police station.

Parvez Parvaz is quite well known for launching a witch hunt against the incumbent Chief Minister of UP- Yogi Adityanath. In 2008, he had filed an FIR against CM Yogi and few others for inciting communal violence in 2007 Gorakhpur riots. However, the advocate general had raised serious doubts over the petition and had said that the investigation was over. The Allahabad High Court also rejected the plea of Parvez Parvaz by stating that it found nothing wrong in the conduct of investigation.

Last year too the Uttar Pradesh government had declined sanction to prosecute Yogi Adityanath and other accused in the case filed by Parvez Parvaz. The court said that video evidence sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in October 2014 was “tampered”.

He had tried his level best to make a career by witch-hunting CM Yogi just like some so-called journalists did by haunting Narendra Modi after 2002 Godhra riots. The arrest of Parvez Parvaz and his accomplice in the rape case will shed more light on the fake FIR filed by him to tarnish the image of the UP CM. Instances like these are not uncommon where a budding journalist is motivated by vile intentions to discredit some prominent politicians specially when they come from a section which enjoys popular majority. CM Yogi and PM Modi have one more thing in common with this occurrence, both have vile liberals vying to discredit them.
