Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has carried out a scathing attack on Congress president Rahul Gandhi after his announcement to dissolve the state assembly and go ahead with early polls. On Thursday afternoon a resolution recommending the dissolution of the House was adopted in the meeting of the state cabinet headed by the Telangana CM. The statements of KCR targeting Rahul Gandhi followed soon after the decision to dissolve the assembly came out in the media. KCR used unsheathed words to brand Rahul Gandhi as the ‘biggest buffoon’ in the country and went on to add that Rahul visiting Telangana in the future would provide a boost to his party, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the polls.

His statements will have a deep impact on the goals of the Congress to prop up Rahul Gandhi as the PM candidate for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections. His words lay bare the respect and command which Rahul enjoys in today’s political scene. Let alone the BJP but even the opposition parties from states do not treat him seriously and are not afraid to directly attack him. The stature of a politician could be measured from the opposition which he receives, Rahul fails drastically in this regard too as he is not seen as a threat at even the state level. TRS which has stayed in power ever since the creation of the state of Telangana is not afraid to lock horns with the Congress by conducting early polls while the state Congress wing of Telangana has started crying foul to save face. Sravan Dasoju, the chief spokesperson of Congress Telangana unit has alleged that there seems to be a pact between PM Modi led BJP and TRS chief KCR owing to which he has decided to go for early polls.
KCR and TRS have not directly been in touch with the NDA and are yet to support the BJP directly. The only time when KCR supported NDA was during the time of election of the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman post. This happened when the NDA candidate was a JDU leader and it had required Nitish Kumar to convince KCR to lend his support. BJP would like to win seats on its own in Telangana, a coalition if any between the two might come out as a recent development but nothing is on the cards for Congress in the state. KCR by calling for early polls has snatched not just the opportunity to garner support in the state for the Congress but through his statements has also shred to pieces any chances of TRS joining the united opposition.
