Kanhaiya Kumar to contest 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Bihar’s Begusarai

Former Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union leader and now a leader of the Communist Party of India Kanhaiya Kumar is seemingly going to contest elections from Begusarai in Bihar. The former JNUSU leader might be fielded from the Begusarai constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by the CPI which has started to garner support for him by consulting with Lalu Yadav. Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal is a force to reckon with in Bihar despite the party supremo being in jail for charges of corruption. The caste based politics whose roots could be traced back to RJDs rule in 1990 is still quite strong, The CPI leadership has approached the RJD supremo for supporting Kanhaiya Kumar a proposition to which Lalu Yadav readily agreed.

CPI state secretary Satya Narayan Singh said, “Left parties, including the CPI, want him to contest the Lok Sabha election from Begusarai in 2019 and other parties such as Congress and RJD also want him to contest the election”. He went on to add about the support from Lalu Yadav by saying, “During our talks held on earlier occasions, Prasad had agreed to leave a seat for him.”

CPI and RJD seem to be joining hands to prop up a candidate which can give a tough challenge to the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in Bihar. Kanhaiya who hails from Begusarai will also get a chance to play the caste and local card in the Lok Sabha 2019 elections. A probable grand alliance between Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, RJD and CPI is likely to take place in Bihar. The strong position which BJP and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) coalition enjoys in the state at this point of time is a threat to the existence of the other parties.

Kanhaiya Kumar on the other hand had joined the CPIs 125 member national council as the General Secretary of the Council. He had joined the CPI officially in the 23rd party congress in Kollam as the General Secretary by superseding three senior leaders in the party. His joining the party has a lot to do with the dwindling fortunes of the party in the country; from West Bengal to Tripura the party has lost its bastions one after another. The entire leftist cabal has helped in building the image of Kanhaiya Kumar as the next big thing to come in Indian politics. Considering the lack of a strong leadership in Congress which is the prime opposition party in the country, CPI and Kanhaiya Kumar desperately want to take over.

RJD supremo Lalu Yadav is a convict and a scammer who had ruined Bihar and dragged the state backwards while he was in power. His support to Kanhaiya Kumar and CPI means that they once again want to unleash hell on the citizens of the state, friends with common goals are joining hands and they are being supported by the rest of the opposition which hardly can make a dent on its own. From being a part of the tukde tukde gang to joining CPI after bitterly criticising the party time and again to now entering politics with the support of convicted leaders, Kanhaiya Kumar has one hell of a story to tell. A story which will need many justifications and excuses in the future from Kanhaiya Kumar and his ilk for fooling the public and joining hands with the RJD and Congress.
