Bhima-Koregaon arrests: Fadnavis deserves all the credit

The arrests of several ‘activists’ in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence has rattled the urban Maoists. The evidence which has been collected in nationwide raids conducted on June 6 and August 28 have led to seizure of evidence which clearly establishes link between arrested activists with Maoist organisations and Communist Party of India (Maoist). As per the evidence collected it has come to light that these activists who are known to be supported by the leftist-liberal cabal were planning ‘another Rajiv Gandhi-like incident’ in order to create chaos. The Maharashtra police have claimed that these so called human rights activists who have been arrested were hatching a conspiracy against the state by helping the CPI (Maoist) to strengthen its urban plan and by procuring top-grade weapons for naxals in the stronghold areas. The police have also released evidence which shows that Varavara Rao, Vernon Gonsalves, Arun Ferreira, Sudha Bhardwaj and Gautam Navalakha were directly or indirectly involved in Maoist activities. Several letters have also been seized during the raids, the contents of which go on to show that these “human rights activists” were deeply involved in Maoist activities.

In the entire controversy surrounding these arrests and the counter-accusations made by the cabal, it has somewhere been ignored that Maharashtra chief minister Fadnavis has achieved which no other chief minister could achieve till now. He has taken on the leftist-liberal cabal and has hit them where it hurts the most. The Maharashtra police was dead professional in its crackdown on the urban naxals and gave them the shock of their lives by quietly attacking them. The police made a quick, thorough and effective investigation into the conspiracy and Maoist links of those arrested and struck at the right time. Some of the arrests were made on June 6 which left the urban Maoists in a state of shock and then they were jostled again on August 28. This is probably for the first time that a police force has been able to take the urban Maoists to task on such a large scale and has also conducted raids without caring for the cabal’s backlash.

Everyone seems elated about how the urban Maoists are being exposed and brought to justice for the first time. Meanwhile, the leftist cabal has become restless and has been alleging that the government is proceeding against these “human rights activists” only because they are people who question the government. So called intellectuals like Aruna Roy, Arundhati Roy and Prashant Bhushan have come out hurling make believe allegations against the government and the BJP. But little is being said about Maharashtra chief minister Fadnavis who led the crackdown against the urban Maoists in his state. He has pulled off a remarkable achievement by showing zero tolerance towards those with Maoist links operating from urban areas and has set a welcome precedent.

One must keep in mind that no chief minister in the past has shown what it takes to act against such elements and face an organised campaign from the cabal which leaves no stone unturned in going after its enemies. Fadnavis deserves all the credit for acting fearlessly. He didn’t care about the backlash that he would most likely face once these raids were conducted and arrests made. This is a historic achievement for the Maharashtra police in the history of independent India.
