Recently, Brett Kavanaugh was nominated by President Donald Trump to the US Supreme Court. Brett Kavanaugh is facing allegations of sexual assault from a lady, Dr Christine Blasey Ford. Ms. Ford has spoken about the alleged assault after a period of thirty years. While this in itself is a long time for anyone to report a crime inflicted on oneself, what is more curious is how the timing of her allegations has come at just the right time for the Democrats, who are trying everything possible to stop the appointment of the Republican candidate to the Associate Justice post of the Supreme Court of the United States. The Democrats have more than one reason to be angry and against the election of Brett Kavanaugh, not only is he nominated by the Republican Party but he also was instrumental in preparing the well known Starr Reports which urged the impeachment of Democrat President Bill Clinton.

Christine Blasey Ford has come at the right time to accuse Brett Kavanaugh of a heinous crime, so much so that it feels like it is an almost well timed co-ordinated effort to discredit the Judge. Ford put in patchy details of the incident which according to her, took place at a party which happened almost thirty years ago, she accused Kavanaugh and friend Mark of forcing her into a bedroom when they were teenagers in the 1980s. It is not surprising that most of the people mentioned by Ms. Ford have denied the knowledge of any such party being held in the first place. People who according to Ford were present at the venue where the alleged sexual misconduct took place, have denied being aware of any such party or incident. Even the only witness who according to Ms. Ford was inside the house at the time of the assault has denied her claims. Her details are patchy and so much so that she could not even recall the house and its location where the incident took place, she also is forgetting the names of the people she was there with or how she managed to return. Neither had Ms. Ford told anyone of the alleged assault on her by Brett Kavanaugh in a long period of 30 years.

Brett Kavanaugh outright denied all allegations levied on him by Ford. He made it clear that neither had he indulged in any kind of sexual misconduct with Ford nor with anyone else in his lifetime. During the Senate testimony, Brett Kavanaugh passionately and convincingly defended himself invoking his children and family and others who know him while defending himself against the allegations. There is no record either in his long public life which hints towards any such kind of behaviour against women. His angry demeanour was and will be used by the Democrats as a weapon against him, but is it possible for a man to stay quiet when he is being discredited and defamed in a planned manner? The goal of the Democrats is to destroy Brett Kavanaugh, and everything he says or does will be used against him.

Brett Kavanaugh’s case is one of the famous ones where a woman is suspiciously alleging a man for sexual assault, but it is not the only one. Countless such cases have emerged in the recent times both in India and globally where allegations of sexual assault have been used to do the character assassination of a person who hold opposing views. This ‘weaponisation’ of sexual assault allegations is a recent trend and a dangerous one indeed which has specially been used to target President Trump and the Republican establishment since it came to power in America. The methodology is similar in almost every case, wait for a person who is going to be appointed in a prominent position, come up with decades old claims which are not backed by any facts but are reliant on emotions. The final step is to use the media for highlighting the claims made and for conducting media trials which brand the accused as guilty by talking negatively of him, thereby tarnishing his image without even an iota of hard found evidence.

This ‘weaponisation’ of sexual assault allegations is increasingly being used where the alleged perpetrators’ political views are in sync with that of the majority of the common public and contrary to the declining regressive left. The goal is to force the opinions of the Left if not through democratic means then by defamation and propaganda. Such type of behaviour was on display in India as well when an AAP worker Jasleen Kaur maligned and subsequently destroyed the life of an honest guy named Saravjeet Singh by blaming him for eve teasing. What she wanted was some prominence and fame what Saravjeet got in return was troubles at work, family and court cases which have lasted in upwards of three years. This weaponisation is dangerous for political discourse and sanctity of institutions.
