The Congress President Rahul Gandhi by denying any involvement of his party in the anti-Sikh riots in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s death in 1984 has opened a can of worms. His remarks in London ignited a huge controversy in India. While interacting with a group of people in the United Kingdom, Rahul Gandhi was asked: “When we speak about 1984, we speak about the criminal involvement of the Congress party in over 3000 murders in Delhi alone over which there’s been no move to deliver justice since then.” To this Rahul Gandhi replied by saying anti-Sikh riots were a “tragedy” and a “painful experience” and further said, “You say the Congress party was involved. I don’t agree with that.”

It becomes pertinent to mention infamous words of former PM Rajiv Gandhi when he was asked about the gruesome violence launched against the Sikhs after the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her guards, Rajiv said: “When a big tree falls, the Earth shakes.” This is no less than justifying the killings.

Rahul Gandhi’s comments have angered the people, especially of the Sikh community, and Rajiv’s sins are coming out of the graves of history one by one. Past sins of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty are now talk of the town. Lutyens’ media tried its level best to suppress the truth but all their efforts are going in vain. The hallow that Congress party and the Darbari media have created around Rajiv Gandhi over the years has been shattered and undone by the none other than the comments of his son and this is evident in the way people are openly expressing their anger against Rajiv Gandhi.

Taking the bull by its horn-Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga- has placed hoardings in various regions of Delhi including the centre of the national capital- Cannought place; where Rajiv Gandhi has been addressed as ‘Father of mob lynching’. Tajinder Pal Bagga also said that violence that followed after the assassination of Indira Gandhi was “not Hindu-Sikh riot, it was Rajiv Gandhi sponsored massacre.”

He also asked if the Congress was not involved in the massacre of Sikhs then why did Manmohan Singh apologized in Lok Sabha?

Earlier, SAD leader, Harsimrat Kaur Badal launched blistering attack against Rahul Gandhi’s insensitive remark. She said, “If as per him Sikh massacre never took place then as per me his father and grandmother were never assassinated, they died of normal heart attack.” She also said: “Rather it’s time you forgot your wretched lineage as the “Gandhi” in your name is synonymous with the massacre of Sikhs, desecration of the Golden Temple, demolition of Akal Takht Sahib & unforgivable sacrilege of thousands of Guru Granth Sahibs. @RahulGandhi (sic.)”

Whatever the legacy Rajiv Gandhi had left, whatever the hallow Darbari media had constructed about him is now shattered, all thanks to Rahul Gandhi. With his just one statement, Gandhi scion has ensured that his father’s name becomes synonymous with the anti-Sikh pogroms. Furthermore, his statement has reignited the debate around the anti-Sikh riots and educating more and more people about the massacre and his party’s involvement in it. More and more people are now coming to know about the sins of Rajiv Gandhi.
