Former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) and leader of the All India Students Federation (AISF), JNU unit Kanhaiya Kumar has come under fire from one of his onetime close aide, Jayant Jigyasu. In a long expose which also serves as his resignation letter shared on Facebook, Jayant has expressed his desire to be relieved from the Secretary post and the general membership he holds in AISF. The post is addressed to the General Secretary of the Communist Party, Sudhakar Reddy, Jayant talks about Kanhaiya Kumar and the likes of him have used AISF as a stepping stone to fulfil their own political greed. Jayant Jigyasu, describes Kanhaiya Kumar and the mindset of CPI in general where people coming from the poor and downtrodden sections are subjected to humiliation and are not allowed to rise to high posts in the party. Kanhaiya Kumar has also been accused of being a casteist and of lying both inside and outside the party at several time, the onus of destroying student activism in JNU also should be borne by Kanhaiya Kumar and the CPI according to Jayant Kumar.
An annoyed insider can sometimes prove to be more fatal for a group than any other outsider. Jayant Jigyasu has done the same for Kanhaiya Kumar and the AISF together, exposing their hypocrisy in every paragraph. He criticizes Kanhaiya for stating that he was not a part of the AISF, JNU Unit in a party meeting held earlier. Jayant reveals the lofty personal ambitions of Kanhaiya. CPI and AISF are also accused of indulging in caste-based favouritism and promotion of suitable candidates based on their castes. He also cites an instance when Kanhaiya, in response to a query related to OBC reservations had issued a statement saying, “Will we give them reservations out of our pockets?” Jayant holds the organisation and many of its members of being closet casteists who behave like socialists when they are out in the public; Kanhaiya Kumar is a shining example of this phenomenon according to the former Secretary of AISF.
Allegations of destroying the internal democracy of the party are also levelled against Kanhaiya Kumar and the other CPI members who want to continue their domination on the party structure and leadership at all costs. According to Jayant Jigyasu, the hypocrisy of the party is exposed when top leaders of the CPI and AISF from Delhi and Bihar file in mass resignations owing to the dubious stance of the party on issues such as women reservation and others. Jayant also rakes up the issue when Kanhaiya Kumar had misbehaved with Raheela Parveen and Ruby Singh inside the JNU campus, for which he had been fined too. Jayant Jigyasu ends his letter stating that he is facing threats from party members and the whole party has been reduced to a “one-man show”, due to which he is ready to bid adieu to the party.
Kanhaiya Kumar and the CPI will now have to face tough questions wherever they go next with their tall claims of being pro-India, a former colleague of theirs has laid bare the facts related to their mask. The veil is off now and it should help young minds stay off the track of joining the communist leagues which have nothing to offer today, Jayant Jigyasu has taken a brave decision for the betterment of politics in the country by making this letter public. Kudos.
