Distasteful campaign by leftist-liberal personalities to malign Atal Ji

atal ji, leftist liberal

The entire nation came to a standstill after one of the most loved prime ministers till date and arguably the most respected statesman of our time, Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last yesterday. When tributes started pouring in from across the political spectrum and the citizenry, there were some “liberals” who rejoiced the demise of the former prime minister. Yet other liberals appeared visibly miffed over how the entire nation was mourning his demise and went on to defame the popular leader. Scroll.in came out with a distasteful piece in which it presented Atal ji in a very poor image citing his speech on December 5, 1992, a day before the Babri Masjid was demolished. Scroll.in claimed that this speech contradicts Vajpayee’s claim that he was neither involved in the demolition nor had prior knowledge of it. It further stated that this speech, like most of Vajpayee’s other speeches, was filled with allusions. Scroll.in further stated that one line in particular in which he talked about “sharp-edged boulders” and the need to “level the ground” stood out and was greeted with cheers from the crowd, thereby indicting Atal ji of being abetting Babri demolition.

While the Scroll.in was subdued and manipulative in Atal ji’s criticism, The Wire, an anti-Hindu outlet was more direct and distasteful in tarnishing the image of the former prime minister. It claimed that Atal ji was always a “mukhota” (mask) of the BJP. The Wire also claimed that while Vajpayee ostensibly appeared liberal, he was always a Sangh loyalist from within. The article also claims, “Vajpayee was as much committed to Hindutva and to Golwalkar’s vision of Muslims and Christians being allowed to live in India as second class citizens at the “mercy” of the Hindu majority community as Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the current RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat are.” Maybe, The Wire looks at everyone as manipulative and conniving. However, unlike The Wire, Atal ji had no hidden motives and never minced any words. It is outlets like The Wire which disguise as politically neutral outlets and then pursue an agenda, former prime minister Vajpayee had no such traits. The Wire should stop labeling anyone with such adjectives and Atal ji is certainly not the personality to be made a victim of such distasteful reporting.

Shibangi Sinha Roy, a sub-editor at The Wire came with an even more distasteful tweet over the demise of the former prime minister and rejoiced that “Atal Bihari Vajpayee is finally dead”. She also criticised in advance the massive roadblocks that we may have to face. However, she deleted this tweet later on.

Former IPS officer and Congress stooge and now the darling of the leftist-liberal cabal, Sanjiv Bhatt tweeted, “Dear Indians, Do you now realise what was our original sin? It was allowing Vajpayee to fool us with his masquerade. It was then that we allowed blatant majoritarian communalism to get a foot in the door.” Therefore, Bhatt pushed the vicious leftist propaganda against Vajpayee without any substance whatsoever.

Leftist-liberal journalist Rana Ayyub also quoted the former prime minister as stating, “is dharti ko samtal karna hoga . ABV on babri” in an apparent dig over Babri demolition.

She also retweeted little known handle @IndiaExplained’s tweet which stated, “Vajpayee was as much of a disgrace as Advani to the best traditions of Indian coexistence and pluralism. That he may have had an inkling of remorse after the Babri demolition or the 2002 anti-Muslim pogrom does not change that. Men like this do not deserve to be mourned one bit.”

CPI representative and a well known name among the leftist-liberal circles, Kavita Krishnan was even bitterer in the liberal propaganda against the late statesman. She said, “Vajpayee represented the illusion of the Indian ruling classes and rightwing intelligentsia that the BJP could become a conservative rightwing party without a communal fascist core. Long before Vajpayee’s physical demise, that illusion had begun to fade.”

In another tweet, she stated, “The man behind the mask was just as much a Sanghi, committed to turning India into a Hindu Nation, as Modi. He played ‘softer’ because he then had the compulsion to provide fig leafs for BJP allies.” In yet another tweet the terror sympathiser blamed Atal ji for Babri demolition.

It is shameful how the entire leftist-liberal association of portals and self acclaimed intellectuals has started a distasteful campaign against Atal ji in order to tarnish his image at a time when the entire nation is in a state of shock. Clearly, these “liberals” are not able to tolerate the fact that someone who differed with them in ideology has turned out to be the most respected statesman of our times.
