Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has proven time and again that he is a man of action and not just empty words. His government has been able to control the dwindling law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. CM Yogi has also laid special emphasis on holistic development of the state.  CM Yogi has pushed towards assimilation and modernisation of Madrasas in the state through inclusive policies. Continuing with this approach, the Yogi government has decided to propose a new dress code for the students of Madrasas in Uttar Pradesh. The new dress code is simple, modern and is being proposed so as to keep the youth going to Madrasas feel like they too are part of a bona fide educational institution.

Yogi led BJP has already implemented the decision to change the syllabus of Madrasas around the state while they have for the first time implemented the use of NCERT textbooks in the same. The need for modernisation had been felt for long in the Madrasas, both in the quantity and quality of education provided in them. The introduction of subjects like English, Hindi, Maths, Social sciences and Science along with the religious subjects will mean that the students get a better quality of education in the days to come. Yogi government has also introduced English and Hindi as mediums of education in Madrasas along with Urdu. These small steps will go a long way in including the Madrasa students in mainstream, the same students who once had no other option for jobs after completing their education from Madrasas, are being given a chance to join the mainstream.

Yogi Adityanath government is also planning to set up a new board which will have all Madrasas affiliated to it. This will help the government in keeping track and equal distribution of funds to these Madrasas. The efforts made by CM Yogi will bear fruit in the days to come, till then there were will be gradual increase in the quality of education being provided at these institutions. These quick decisions had to be taken by the Yogi government after an NCPCR report had claimed that the quality of education provided in the Madrasas were pathetic and their students should be considered, “as good as out of school students”. This was alarming to say the least, since a major part of the children belonging to the Muslim community study in Madrasas.

No wonder the religious organisations are willing to paint an evil picture of the commendable efforts by the Uttar Pradesh government to remove all hints of complex from the hearts of the Madrasa students. A common uniform develops a feeling of unity and erases the class divide which exists in the society. This model should indeed be copied by other state governments of our country as well, following the lead of Yogi Adityanath led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh.

The decision to bring a common dress code for students belonging to the Madrasas is being criticized by bodies of minority institutions and by the opposition parties. Sadly, these parties and organizations believe in keeping the people belonging to the Muslim community away from growth and assimilation with the modern society. These people have their own selfish reasons in keeping a whole community backward so that they can be used as vote banks in the days to come. CM Yogi’s action seems to have rattled these people and so they have resorted to calling it interference in matters of the minority community. They refuse to see the larger picture of a Madrasa going student having command over modern knowledge along with religious knowledge. Either this or they simply do not want them to prosper and grow up in to productive and progressive people from the society.
