In yet another heinous crime against minor, a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA reportedly threatened a gang raped victim and also forced her to withdraw the case. The family of the victim has also come up with an audio clip to prove the allegations. In the audio clip, the voice allegedly of MLA Nahid Hasan can be heard threatening the victim and said that he would implicate them in false cases.
The family of the victim registered a written complaint at Gangoh police station in Saharanpur, after which Saharanpur SSP Upendra Agarwal has started a probe. SSP Upendra Agarwal said, “The victim has claimed that he was pressured and threatened for a compromise in the case. He has submitted a copy of the audio clip, claiming that the caller was the MLA. A probe has been initiated.”
The SP MLA, Nahid Hasan, is the son of MP Tabassum Hasan, who recently made to headlines after winning Kairana by-polls on an RLD ticket. The mainstream media had then started portraying her as if she could be the next potential PM candidate, they also claimed that her family would play a crucial role in the bubble called ‘Mahagathbandhan’ in the upcoming 2019 General elections.
If whatever the family of the victim is saying is true then it’s really shocking. People elect these ministers to serve them and protect them. But in this case the lawmakers are siding with the criminals and attempting to protect them at the cost of the suffering of the common masses.
The part where he asks the victim to compromise with the accused reminds us of how Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proved himself to be incapable when he allegedly asked a woman worker of his party to compromise, the victim later on committed suicide. She was basically unhappy over her party for not initiating any action against her alleged molester. This is simply unacceptable from our lawmakers. But, then again, MLA Nahid Hasan is a member of a party whose leaders are known for giving loose statement about sensitive topics such as rape. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav opposed capital punishment for rape, saying “ladke, ladke hain… galti ho jati hai”. This kind of statement gives a very wrong message in the society and because of such narrow mentality, crimes in this country are increasing. It is highly doubtful that whether the SP would act against Nahid or not, given the narrow mentality of its party. But one can expect Yogi Government to provide security to the victim and her family, and to act strongly against the accused MLA for threatening a rape victim and for obstructing the process of justice. If the MLA is found guilty then he should be strictly punished in order to set the precedence as to what would happen if any lawmaker in the future again dared to obstruct the process of justice and side with the rapists.
