Former Delhi Law Minister and Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti received a jolt from a Delhi Court on Saturday. The Delhi court asked him to face trials in the case registered in connection with a January 2014 midnight raid. Somnath Bharti, in 2014, allegedly led a mob in Khirki Extension while he was the MLA from Malviya Nagar constituency. The mob had targeted nine Ugandan nationals. The said mob led by Somnath Bharti, had barged into the houses of the Ugandan nationals and had committed various offences against the women, some of which are non-bailable in nature owing to crimes being against women. This is another blow for the Aam Aadmi Party and its leaders who have faced much public humiliation owing to the antics of Arvind Kejriwal and company. This directive from the Delhi Court will go a long way in furthering the already plummeting morale of AAP workers.

Somnath Bharti had headed a mob which had barged into the house of Ugandan nationals during the infamous 49 days rule of AAP in Delhi. The mob had trespassed into private property and had proceeded to allegedly molest the women. Somnath Bharti, who allegedly led the mob, had also been caught on camera demanding police to do a thorough check of the premises. Charges of running a drug racket and a prostitution ring were levied on the women by the mob which had harassed them in Khirki Extension.

Somnath Bharti had sent a plea to the Delhi court demanding stoppage of the police probe against him in the Khirki extension raid case. The court also directed framing of charges against him and the other accused for offences ranging from molestation, house trespass and criminal intimidation amongst others. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said, “By no stretch of imagination it can be assumed that whatever offences are alleged to have been done by Bharti can be said to have been done in the discharge of his official duties. I am unable to understand what official duty prompted him to assault the helpless women of foreign origin at around 1am.” This statement by the magistrate is enough to understand how the former Law Minister had abused his powers and position to cause trouble in the society. A total disregard for the values and the rules of our constitution were shown by the AAP MLA and the mob. It is actually surprising that the court took four years to actually frame the charges and order a probe against Somnath Bharti.

This is actually not the only controversy surrounding the AAP MLA. He also faced charges of physical and mental torture from his wife Lipika Bharti. The complaint was filed by Lipika Bharti in June 2015 following which the Law Minister was summoned to the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). Mrs. Bharti, who had been living separately from her husband since three years, had alleged that her husband had beaten her countless times.

It is sad that AAP has been harboring leaders like Somnath Bharti and Sandeep Kumar who blatantly abuse the powers which the public bestows on them. These politicians should be taken to task along with their leader Arvind Kejriwal for disturbing the society through their drunk on power antics. Nothing much is expected of AAP whose leader himself is ready to sleep off and enjoy the privileges of being the CM of Delhi.
