Saif Ali Khan’s absurd statement on Sacred Games controversy: One can get killed for criticizing the government in India

Last week, a member of the Congress party has registered a complaint against Sacred Games, Netflix’s first Indian original series . The complaint was registered in reference to a comment in the show referring to the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as a “Fattu” (translated as ‘pussy’ in subtitles) in a scene. Sacred Games is a web television series directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. The first episode of the series in which the comment related to Rajiv Gandhi was made was aired on 6th July on Netflix. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Author Vikram Chandra, which was published in 2006.

The FIR was registered in Kolkata by a man named Rajeev Kumar Sinha who claims to be a candidate of the Congress Party in municipal elections. The complaint was filed against Nawazuddin Siddique, actor and producer of the brand new Netflix series. The complaint exposed the hypocrisy within the Congress party which keeps talking about the lack of freedom of expression in the nation. Its leaders like Shashi Tharoor and Jyotiraditya Scindia keep making a hue and cry that freedom of expression is in danger under the Modi government. The Congress cabal which espouses creative freedom, maintained pin drop silence on this whole issue. Infact, no one said that Congress is an intolerant party and have no space for an alternative view.

Regarding this issue actor Saif Ali Khan, who is playing the lead role, made a ridiculous statement. When Saif Ali Khan was asked about the complaint and the leader’s demand to take Sacred Games off Netflix, he launched the rant about how intolerant and unsafe India is by saying, “If you date someone from the wrong caste, somebody will kill you in some parts of India. That’s just the way it is. I don’t know how much you can criticise your government in India, somebody might kill you.” The irony is that he earned all his fame and money from the same country. He being able to give such a statement is enough to prove how tolerant India and its current government is.

Saif Ali Khan’s statement shows how ignorant he is. A Congress leader has registered the complaint, but he has found a way to blame the government. The show is about case and issues such as the Shah Bano case and Triple Talaq, which changed the course of the Indian politics but he has found a way to blame the caste system. Well, now it seems that Saif Ali Khan did not have guts to go after the Congress Party. Not just caste but people in some parts of this country also gets killed because of religious differences. Ankit Saxena was killed for being in a relationship with a Muslim girl and having a desire to marry her. There are numerous cases of Love Jihad where women after their marriage, when refuses to change their religion are mercilessly killed.

This is not the first time Saif Ali Khan is in news for his ignorance and absurd logic. Earlier also he wrote an absurd letter about nepotism for which he received virulent criticism.
