A chaiwala could become prime minister because we preserved democracy, says Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge

The narrow mentality of the Congress party leaders is no hidden secret. This time senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has completely exposed his mentality. According to him a “chaiwala” could become PM of the country because the party preserved democracy. He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been asking, at every function, about what the Congress has done for the country in the past 70 years. A chaiwala like him (Modi) could become prime minister because we preserved democracy.”

Mallikarjun Kharge’s statement shows the true character of the Congress party and its leaders. For them, democracy is for the Congress, by the Congress, of the Congress. Probably, they believe the people and the constitution played no role in preserving democracy. Indian democracy is running just because of the ‘benevolence’ and ‘grace’ of the Congress party. And we should all be thankful to them.

The Congress party and its leaders consider India to be their fiefdom. Their mentality is similar to the Britishers who justified their rule in India on the pretext of civilizing India. They claimed that it is the white man’s burden to civilize Indians and that’s why their rule in India is justified. Britishers left India in 1947 but the Congress inherited their mentality. A congressman thinks that it is their moral obligation to rule India forever and there is no alternative (TINA) to its rule. They believe it is their birthright to do whatever they wish to with India as they please. One such example is the Emergency. It is very well known how the Congress party saved democracy 43 years ago by imposing emergency on the midnight of 25 June, 1975. During the emergency fundamental rights of citizens were suspended. Each and every voice of dissent and protest was brutally suppressed.  All the constitutional bodies were forced to surrender before the government. Journalists were asked to bend but they crawled and those who defied the diktat were imprisoned. Opposition leaders were thrown behind bars and tortured. Houses of people were demolished and forced sterilization campaign was carried out on the orders of Sanjay Gandhi. This period is considered as the darkest chapter of our democracy.

One should be thankful to the benevolence and the exemplary kindness of the Congress party that it lifted the emergency in just 21 months. They could have continued the emergency forever and converted the country into a Gandhi monarchy but instead, they decided to choose to be kind to the people of India. Maybe that is what Mallikarjun Kharge was trying to say when he said that democracy in India prevails because of the Congress party. If Narendra Modi, a chaiwala, is a PM today it is all because of the Congress party and not because the people of the nation who voted and elected him.

Today, the Congress party is almost on the verge of becoming a regional party and facing existential crisis only because of their arrogance and sense of entitlement which has no upper limit. The people of the nation are throwing them out of power state after state because they don’t want such a party which believes that upholding democracy is not their duty but a favour that they are doing to the country.
