For all the talks of freedom of expression and freedom to speak that the left preaches about, it has been well known that they have an intense dislike for any ideology other than their own. The Left in India especially are so hell bent upon proving themselves correct that they leave no stone unturned to silence the opposition. Problem lies in the fact that they rarely do so by constructive actions. Time and again they have shown that they believe in silencing the questioner rather than providing an answer. An incident which proves this point had taken place way back in 2008 near Thalassery in Kannur district of Kerala. A judicial court in Thalassery awarded life imprisonment to 11 Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) workers. The accused were pronounced guilty by the court in connection with the murder of a BJP worker in March 2008. Mahesh, an auto rickshaw driver was brutally killed by members of the CPM while he was waiting for passengers. The murders were carried out by the angry CPM workers as Mahesh had left CPM and joined BJP instead.

The Additional Sessions Court pronounced the 11 accused guilty of the murder which was done in anger over Mahesh’s decision. Some explosives had been used following which Mahesh’s head was brutally chopped off by the devilish CPM workers. The murder of Mahesh was followed by a series of riots and clashes between BJP and CPM activists throughout Kerala. This incident is a reminder of the thought process of CPM workers and how it has not changed in decades and is unlikely to change in the years to come too. Mahesh was not an influential person. He was an auto rickshaw driver who struggled to make ends meet, his only fault was that he had switched over to the BJP from CPM. Murder is the way in which CPM deals with dissent in their factions.

The situation in Kerala has become worse in the recent years. Countless BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers have lost their lives in the recent years owing to violence by the CPM party members. The CPM not just protects its thugs but also instigates them to commit such evil acts on a regular basis. The most shocking incident had come to the notice when working at the behest of the CPM, the Kerala police had tortured Sreejith so badly that he lost his life in April 2018. CPM had also provided protection to fundamentalist Islamic organisations like Popular Front of India (PFI) in Kerala which had numerous charges of murder, indulging in violence and communal clashes on its members. One can hope that better sense prevails in the minds of the Communist government in the state but just a look at the way in which the Communist party operates in the rest of the country it is difficult to predict if such a thing could really happen in reality. Communist party needs to be eradicated from not just the political scene in India but also from the society as it is a poisonous weed which erodes the same soil in which it grows.
