To counter unconventional threats, Indian Army has every right to resort to unconventional means.

stone pelters, shield

Better sense has prevailed with the Central government with regard to not extending the ceasefire in the Kashmir valley after Eid. Indian security forces now have the tough job of identifying and neutralising the terrorists who have become pro-active owing to the relaxation during the ceasefire period. The armed forces had been facing grenade attacks, indiscriminate firings and murder of their brethren in the valley along with stone pelting which is the norm in the valley. Their hands were tied for a month long period and they had to contend themselves with shielding themselves throughout this period. A new video is being shared widely where Indian security forces can be seen putting stone pelters in front of their convoy in order to deter other stone pelters from attacking the convoy. The location as being reported is from somewhere around Pulwama in Southern Kashmir.

The video doing the rounds was in fact recorded by a stone pelter who narrates that the Indian armed forces have placed their fellow stone pelters in front of the vans. He sounds angry and agitated for not being able to throw stones and in a funny manner is almost urging the forces to let go of his brethren. He wants them gone so that he can start the display of his stone pelting abilities. We feel his agitation has also got a lot to do with his inability to earn his daily bread. These pelters after all get paid on a daily wage basis. No stone pelting would mean no income for the day.

The human rights activists and the cabal of leftist journalists and political parties would raise a storm over this video. They would criticise the army for using these stone pelters as a shield against other stone pelters. The only people who are entitled to human rights according to them are stone pelters, the armed forces of India do not have any, Aurangzeb, the abducted and then murdered Indian Army soldier, doesn’t qualify for human rights. Leaders of Hurriyat conference and other separatist leaders have still not said a word for Aurangzeb or his family.

We salute the Armed forces for fighting an unconventional warfare with unconventional means. They have followed the lead of Major Nitin Gogoi. They also showed the three stone pelters that Indian army does not believe in excessive or brute force but in smart, common sense solutions. Even the separatist and terrorist sympathisers will face problems in finding faults with the treatment meted out to the three people who were put in front of the convoy. No harassment, no tying to the jeep, no beating just sit on the ground, on the soil of India.

This is an excellent move which needs to be used again and again, as many times as needed. The stone pelters have countless times given shield to the fleeing terrorists who attack civilians and armed forces personnel. Human rights activists, pseudo liberals and terrorist sympathisers can take a hike as India and its citizens stand behind the armed Forces. They can be used as many times as needed, strategically and as per their convenience, the safety of the armed forces is paramount as Indians rely on them for their own safety. And for this, Indian army knows best when to un-sheath the sword and when to use the shield.
