The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Naik, has written to CM Yogi Adityanath seeking action against Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav for the damage he has done to his former residential bungalow. Ram Naik wrote, “The government residences allotted to former chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh are properties of the estates’ department and their construction and maintenance are done through funds, which come from different taxes paid by the public.” The former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav had to vacate the bungalow which he got as the CM during his tenure, as per the orders of Supreme Court of India. He vacated the house before the deadline given by the Court but completely vandalized the property. The destruction of the house where even the bricks were broken created a political storm in the state and the media.

Angry over the actions of Akhilesh Yadav, the governor took suo-motto cognizance (on its own without any complaint) of the matter and even called estate department officials to inquire about the matter. A spokesman of the governor said, “the officials informed Naik that videography of residences was conducted after former chief ministers including Akhilesh vacated their government houses in compliance with a Supreme Court order.” After hearing from the officials, the governor wrote ” the act (damage) is serious and inappropriate and a topic of discussion in the media as well as in the public at large. Action should be taken in accordance with the law for damaging the state property.”

The socialist leader came out to face media yesterday when he said that wooden flooring is intact and only a section of the house was damaged and he is ready to pay for the damages. The question is, if he is ready to pay for the damage then why he did this serious damaging of the government property in the first place? He also claimed that he had purchased the appliances from his own money. The luxury of the house also raises a serious question over the ideology of his party which claims to be socialist. As per socialist ideals he should have minimized his personal expenses and shared the wealth among the poor but he was living a luxurious life with imported goods. His party often opposes foreign direct investment and emphasizes that homegrown medium and small scale companies should get priority while he enjoys the luxury of imported goods.

His father was opposed to multinational companies like Coca-cola expanding their business in India and now he is living in a house which is layered with imported tiles and marbles. This exposes his bigotry and false ideals of his party. It should be noted that the party claims Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia as its ideological father figure but they have gone against his ideas by promoting casteism. Lohia was opposed to caste and gave the idea of sharing “roti” with people of other caste and allowing marriages in other castes to remove the influences of caste. He was also against dynastic politics and nepotism. The Samajwadi Party has forgotten all of his ideals today as this is a blatantly nepotistic and casteist party. The top brass of the party is occupied by the family of Mulayam Singh Yadav and the regional leadership is dominated by Yadav leaders. Governor Ram Naik is right in demanding action against the former UP CM. The act of vandalizing bungalow is condemnable and legal actions should be taken by the government against Akhilesh Yadav.
