The Nehru family scion, Rahul Gandhi who comes from a family which ruled India for decades, was today summoned to appear before the Bhiwandi court in Maharastra, where the charges under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC have been put against the Congress President. This must have been very humiliating for him. The judge read out the charges and asked: “Do you plead guilty?” The Congress president replied, “I plead not guilty.”
He appeared before the court in connection with the defamation case filed against him by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over his comments at a rally before the 2014 General Elections, where he blamed the RSS for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination in 1948. He said, “RSS ke logon ne Gandhiji ko goli mari aur yeh log Gandhiji ki baat karte hain”. RSS worker, Rajesh Kunte had filed the case. Rahul Gandhi refused to apologize for his comments, hence he is facing the consequences. He in fact approached to the Supreme Court with the plea to quash the case. However, the Supreme Court declined his request by saying that Rahul Gandhi should not have resorted to “collective denunciation” of an organization and if he did not condemn his remarks then he would have to face the trial. In September 2016, he withdrew his petition and said that he would face the trial.
Back to Back Rahul Gandhi has been facing embarrassment. Yesterday, he gave his critics something to snigger about as he told at a large gathering in Delhi that the founder of Coca-Cola started by selling “shikanji“. He further said that the founder of McDonald’s used to run a ‘dhaba’ earlier. His last motivation dose was that the companies like Mercedes, Honda and Ford were started by ‘mechanics’. Happiness is listening to the speeches of Rahul Gandhi.
However, the Congress witnessed their most embarrassing moment last week, when the former President and the stalwart Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee attended a RSS event at Nagpur. Pranab Mukherjee and Mohan Bhagwat both of them were on the same boat as far as their thoughts about nation, nationalism and patriotism is concerned. Rahul Gandhi has attacked the RSS constantly, blaming it for every ill in the country. Now each and every statement made by Rahul Gandhi against the RSS including the one accusing them of being the killer of MK Gandhi is getting hollower and hollower day by day.
It’s just Tuesday, the month has not even crossed the halfway mark and already there are so many setbacks for the Congress President Rahul Gandhi. It is expected as the case will progress, Rahul Gandhi would face many more embarrassments. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had failed to appear in Bhiwandi court on 23rd April. He is habitual of employing delaying tactics. But eventually the law will catch up.
