Congress Party is finding it difficult to maintain its position in the country under the leadership of its President Rahul Gandhi. If at all it manages to survive in the political scenario of India in the coming years it will be due to some magical face saving ploys carried out by senior leaders and loyalists of the Gandhi-Nehru family. The job of spokespersons of the Congress and their leaders is made even more difficult by the Congress President Rahul Gandhi. His absurd statements which lack any solid proof and are based on fictional stories often make him the laughing stock of the people, but even worse are the situations where he backtracks and doesn’t do anything after promising a lot. In order to build his image as a “Janeudhari Brahmin”, Rahul had started visiting temples prior to the Gujarat state elections. This sudden fascination with temples of Rahul Gandhi continued in Karnataka as well probably to woo the Hindu majority voter base of the state. Rahul made a tall claim at one of the rallies in Karnataka of going to the Kailash Mansarovar yatra after the May 12 assembly polls in the state.

The statement was made in a rally which was held a couple of days after the incident in which Rahul Gandhi’s plane had developed a technical snag. Rahul Gandhi probably went too ahead with his words and promised to visit Kailash Mansarovar in China’s ruled Tibetan region. He probably forgot all about taking the yatra once the elections were over and left for Italy with his mother followed by solo trip to United Kingdom. The Congress machinery again had to work overtime in order to defend its promising champion. They came up with the random excuse that Rahul Gandhi’s is yet to receive a response from the government. This excuse however did not last long as the Ministry of External Affairs did not lose much time in rubbishing the statements of the Congress Party. MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, “We have not received any formal request for his visit to the Tibetan Autonomous region in China”, thereby refuting the claims of the Congress leaders who were trying to save Rahul Gandhi from the ordeal of taking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, and also attacking the BJP led central government.

Rahul Gandhi has been panned countless times on the social media for not undertaking the holy yatra. Congress leaders and Rahul Gandhi are scared of being branded anti-Hindu again, though nobody would have blinked an eyelid if a Congress party leader backtracked on his promises. His social media machinery and official spokespersons of the Congress have already spent many sleepless nights when he made statements such as ‘people who go to temples, tease girls’ and numerous other political blunders. Rahul Gandhi is caught between the devil and the deep sea today as he does not want to anger the minority voter base of the Congress and wants to be seen as a Hindu leader at the same time. This tumultuous situation will lead to more such instances where he backtracks and underperforms on his promises. Excuses for his failed promises are readily provided by the senior Congress loyalists but even they have their limits. Rahul should make his stand clear on where he stands, his pseudo-secular politics is definitely not helping him or the Congress. People have realized that Congress has always used religion and caste as political tools, it’s high time that the Congress President himself realizes this too.
