Congress rejects Kejriwal’s desperate request for a pre-poll alliance

After Punjab rejected the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) now the Congress has also rejected it. In recently concluded Shahkot Punjab by-poll AAP lost its deposits. AAP only got 1900 votes (632 votes more than NOTA). In Shahkot constituency 2017, AAP secured 41,000 votes about thousand less than Congress which had secured 42,008. In the same year, in the Gurdaspur parliament by-election AAP suffered a similar fate and lost the deposit. It secured only 25,000 votes whereas in 2014 Lok Sabha elections it received 1.77 Lakh votes. At present in Punjab AAP is almost on the verge of extinction. Infact in Delhi  AAP’s popularity is deteriorating as well. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is well aware of this and reportedly this is why he approached the Congress with an offer to form a grand pre-poll alliance against the BJP in Delhi. The AAP offered three of the seven Lok Sabha seats to the Congress party for the upcoming 2019 General elections. Recently infact Arvind Kejriwal praised former PM Manmohan Singh, he said “people missing an ‘educated prime minister’ like Manmohan Singh“. But then the offer seems to have not gone well with the Delhi Congress, whose chief Ajay Maken declined it saying, “when the people of Delhi are continuously rejecting the Kejriwal government, why should we come to their rescue”.

It means there will be no Mahagatbandhan in Delhi which will be serious trouble for Kejriwal. What this entire episode has shown is that the man who won 67 out of 70 is on shaky grounds. The person who swore on his children not to take support is now dying to get their support to keep himself in existence and relevance.

The second part of Maken’s tweet was completely hypocritical though, because it was the Congress which first gave Aam Aadmi Party a lease on life and supported the 49 day government.

After the tweet, Aam Aadmi Party leader Dilip Pandey responded to Delhi Congress head Ajay Maken. He claimed that some senior leader of the Congress party are in contact with AAP and they are demanding support in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Infact they are also demanding one seat in Delhi. He tweeted in Hindi.

Rebel and expelled AAP leader Kapil Mishra took jibes at the reports.

Allegedly Kapil Mishra said that Kejriwal is desperate to form an alliance with the Congress because he basically wants Congress to leave Delhi for him and while he leaves Punjab for the Congress.

Now Kejriwal’s life has come to a full circle. He built the foundation of AAP by carrying huge protests against the mega scams like 2G and CWG and now he is desperate to form an alliance with the same party whom he earlier accused of it. This is a betrayal to those innocent people who participated in the Anna Hazare’s India against the corruption movement.
