The Karnataka Assembly elections are going to start in a matter of few weeks from today and the politicians and their cabal have started playing dirty. From Rahul Gandhi’s air scare to the North-South divide being brought out by incumbent Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Karnataka, Congress and its cabal have begun their dirty politics in the state. The ‘liberal’ and ‘secular’ media journalists too have jumped in the fray to polarize voters for their favourite secular parties. The downfall of the Congress and its allies throughout India has frightened the so called liberals who refuse to accept that they are fighting a lost battle. Tired of their coalitions and promises not working in the elections, the cabal has now resorted to frightening the public through shows of caste, religious and language divide. Saba Naqvi an ‘eminent’ and ‘free thinking’ liberal has been in Karnataka for the past few days. She has been discovering the ‘love’ towards Congress in the hearts of the public and much more, quite frequently. Her recent discovery is a Sambar powder (condiment) which is sold by a company called Eastern. The mention of condiments from grocery shops shows the dedication of Saba Naqvi and others of her ilk. The discovery which happened in Karwar region, which is Anant Kumar Hegde’s constituency, shocked Saba Naqvi. The reason was simple the condiment was named ‘Brahmin Sambar Powder.’

Saba Naqvi could not control her excitement at this latest discovery and she took to twitter to showcase her latest findings. Anant Kumar Hegde and his constituency were explicitly mentioned in the Tweet by Saba Naqvi. The reason was simple, point towards the name of a product since it includes a particular caste name. The name of Anant Kumar Hegde, a BJP leader, and his constituency was used to show that BJP and its leaders support casteism in their own constituencies. The tweet was meant to highlight the ‘backwardness’ of India under the BJP leadership.

What Saba Naqvi and her relentless efforts were not able to find out was that the company Eastern was owned and operated by a Muslim businessman M E Meeran. M E Meeran is the chairman of Eastern Group of Companies, India’s curry powder king. His company has been manufacturing condiments since 1984 and is a huge success. In fact, it received top two star exporters in the southern region ‘Gold award’ by Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu. The company, apart from selling in India, also exports a large number of Sambar shipments to the Middle East and other foreign countries. Eastern is a family run business and has his son Navas Meeran in the board of directors as Vice-Chairman. Eastern, a group run by a Muslim entrepreneur from the Adimaly village (also known as spice district) in Kerala is a success story which if replicated in other areas would increase the prosperity of India as whole.

It is this group run by a Muslim family which produces the ‘Brahmin Sambar Powder’ which Saba Naqvi, herself a Muslim, discovered in Karnataka. Her half-knowledge and bias did not allow her to investigate a little bit more before tweeting the half story on Sambar. This is just a tiny example of how pseudo-intellectuals try to manipulate an innocuous event.  These people go on peddling fear and hatred in communities under the garb of being liberal and secular. Saba Naqvi and journalists like her should be questioned as to their intentions and their claim of being unbiased journalists. Their leanings should be out in the open so that no one is deluded by their ‘unpaid’ and ‘unbiased’ opinions in the future. Anant Kumar Hegde used Twitter to thank the people and social media which had exposed the truth behind the farce of Saba Naqvi. Anant Kumar Hegde is right when he says “certain idiots do not grow but just decay themselves and pollute the immediate environs.”

One should keep that in mind before trusting another liberal.
