Rahul Gandhi’s political march for Kathua victim witnesses harassment of women

The significant difference between Congress Party leaders and people, who are truly offended by the heinous crimes, is that the people care while the Congress party leaders politicize.

The incident which took place in Kathua has made many people feel frustrated and angry. The inaction of the Jammu & Kashmir government has made people furious. They are not ready to listen to apologies anymore. They want immediate and accurate justice. These sentiments hold true for the people throughout the country and they are right. No one should or can defend the people who were involved in a brutal rape and murder. The rapists should be tried and dealt with severely, as quickly as possible.

We understand that no amount of punishment meted out to the perpetrators of the brutal rape and murder of an 8 year old will be enough. The innocent 8 year old girl had faced unimaginable horrors, and nothing can compensate for that. Apologies don’t matter, candle light protests won’t matter, what will make a difference is justice. Justice so severe that every probable rapist from any religion, caste, culture shivers after seeing the punishment meted out to the accused in the Kathua case.

A candle light vigil to India Gate was called by the Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi.

We fail to understand how Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party will set the records straight with a candle light vigil at the India Gate in New Delhi.

The tweet from his official handle read, “Like millions of Indians my heart hurts tonight. India simply cannot continue to treat its women the way it does.  Join me in a silent, peaceful, candle light vigil at India Gate at midnight tonight to protest this violence and demand justice.”

An effective call for a serious issue, but the march itself turned out to be a disaster. No proper planning and with little to no regard for the women who were harassed, pushed and heckled by Congress Party workers who were laughing and running in order to get a selfie clicked with the Congress Party president and his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

The vigil was ill-conceived, with the sole intention of blaming the government for the act of some evil minded criminals. And the intentions became clear when chants of “Rahul Gandhi ki Jai” were raised in the ‘silent, peaceful, candle light vigil’ of the Congress Party members. The ruckus created was so unbearable that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lost her cool. She shouted and rebuked the TV reporters and party workers who were running wild and free. Minor scuffles and mismanagement of the crowd made it difficult for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to reach the main site for protests.

Even Rahul Gandhi was not spared as he was mobbed by his party workers for selfies. He had to finally leave the protest site in less than an hour. His security detail faced massive difficulties in getting him safely out of the raucous crowd. Rahul Gandhi continued talking to the media from the roof of his car after being unable to sit in the main protest area.

The expressions and mannerisms of the Congress Party workers and leaders were not at all serious. They somehow lacked the gravitas to be present at a candle light vigil asking for the security of women. The female workers in the candle light vigil, including Mrs. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, faced many difficulties which showed the amount of concern the crowd had for women’s safety.

Women facing difficulties in a march for women’s safety, how helpless does it make one feel?

We believe that the Congress Party and every individual have every right to protest against a crime. What we do not support is politicizing the issue at hand. We would urge the Congress Party leaders to work with the Central government in making stringent laws and punishing the culprits. But then again, when have the Congress Party done something? They always have been much better at creating problems than solving them.

Editorial note*

It should be noted that Rahul Gandhi has failed to condemn his close friend and Party comrade, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has come out in support of rape accused Congress Party legislator Hemant Katare from Madhya Pradesh. In light of this, the entire charade of a vigil on women safety by Rahul Gandhi reeks of hypocrisy and looks farcical.
