Sexual barbarism and the repulsive communalisation of rape

Accused rape salma, kathua, investigation, charges heet, witnesses

Indian politics is up for a nasty broil again, as the cases of sexual assaults in Unnao and Kathua have been blown out of proportion by concerted efforts of the liberal intelligentsia. What should’ve been a case of absolute barbarism cut loose is now being diverted into muckraking and repetition of the nasty rhetoric of ‘Hindu terror’. So much for being progressive!

Among this raucous din, another such case has not found its voice, or probably none of the so called journalists, going hoarse on the ideologies of the alleged accused, find it worthy to even give it some coverage.

This is the case of a 6 year old schoolgirl being brutally raped by a man in Bihar, followed by a massive uproar that is being carefully ignored on the same lines as that from Kashmir and Bengal.

In Rohtas district’s Kargahar area, massive protests cropped up demanding strict action against the man who is accused of brutally raping a 6 year old schoolgirl last Thursday. The accused lured her with some chocolate as she was playing outside her residence, and then went to rape the girl, showing no mercy to the poor victim.

In a search launched by her parents, the girl was later found in a critical condition. As of now, the girl is in the hospital, rescued by the police and the accused has been arrested and is undergoing the procedures as established by law.

In solidarity with the victim, as well as the supporters of the same, the shops in Kargahar markets remain shut. Though the accused has been arrested, the angry locals have put in a demand of nothing less than a death sentence.

Before delving deeper into the mess, a question for all : Is there no limit to barbarism? How long can we endure our mothers, sisters and daughters being subjected to such barbaric behavior?

This incident is, however, only the tip of the iceberg. Even though Nitish Kumar led Janata Dal (United) had broken up with the crime-oriented RJD, led by now imprisoned Lalu Prasad Yadav a year ago, the mess created by their erring partners hasn’t vanished as yet.

Only a year ago, a 16 year old schoolgirl was abducted, gangraped and thrown off a moving train near Patna. Though she survived, she hasn’t recovered much from the ordeal, courtesy a harrowing and humiliating experience at the hospital. The accused are yet to be brought to the books.

Not only that, even the state of Assam has been hit by a massive series of consecutive rapes. One need not exercise the grey matter to know the ethnicity of the accused in these cases, but such cases have gone untouched by the mainstream media. Probably it didn’t serve their agenda well, as the cases of Kathua and Unnao do.

As the girl battles for her life, we are unsure of what verdict shall be served to the accused, but this incident should serve as a wake up call to the masses: barbarism has no limits. This is a dangerous trend, which must be squashed as quickly as possible.
