‘Fast’ drama of Congress leaders exposes their hypocrisy

fast, congress

Monday was a bad day for the Congress party or just an ordinary one in light of the numerous mistakes committed by Congress party in the recent times. Prone to making silly remarks, giving vague answers to serious questions concerning the nation and trying to divide the citizens of India have all been ‘child’s play’ for Rahul Gandhi, the President of Congress party. Adding to the list of mistakes Rahul Gandhi has been a part of was the latest “Feasting, Fasting” drama on the 9th of April, 2018 at Rajghat. The so called ‘fast’ was organised by senior leader of the Congress party to promote “social harmony” in India, the same social harmony which was disturbed by the Congress party and other opposition leaders when they decided to stir up the Dalit community by pinning the Supreme Court decision on the Central government. Congress party’s sadbhavna upvas (fast for harmony) was called almost a week after the nationwide rioting which took place on the 2nd of April. While Rahul Gandhi tweeted in support of the nationwide bandh, he had no concern for the unnecessary loss of lives and property which happened. The Sadbhavna fast would have been far more useful had it been held before the bandh, and possibly for longer hours, if Mr. Gandhi and Congress party leaders could indeed ‘fast’.

The fast turned out to be a PR disaster, for numerous reasons. First was the presence of Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, prime accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The presence of party VIPs who have ongoing cases against them for participating in communal riots at a place where a congregation meets for fast to improve social harmony, was as farcical as it can get. Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar either arrived uninvited or were asked to leave after somebody in Rahul Gandhi’s office realized the obvious mistake. The next hilarious mistake was the photo which showed Congress party leaders Ajay Maken, Arvinder Singh Lovely and Haroun Yusuf feasting on chhola bhaturas and other delicacies right before they were supposed to start the ‘fast’. The excuses of the Congress party leaders ranged from they were not supposed to eat anything before 11 a.m. to they had eaten before 8 a.m. It showed the extent of solidarity which the Congress leaders have in their hearts for the masses whom they have mislead all these years in the past.

How could any event of the party be complete without having something funny done by Rahul Gandhi? Rahul Gandhi did not disappoint anyone as he reached 2 hours late for the 5 hour ‘fast’.  You are free to speculate on why Rahul ji arrived late but we believe he came after having lunch. And the only thing he did forego was the afternoon nap. While branding Narendra Modi led Central government as anti-Dalit, Rahul conveniently forgets his own statements which incited and deluded the people into believing that the SC/ST review petition had been filed by the BJP.

The blame game of Congress party is not going to end any soon, not until they have been reduced to the status of a regional party. And with the hard work of the Congress party leaders the day is not far. Cambridge Analytica might have helped Congress party with profiling in the past but what the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi need is an efficient mind and the genuine concern for the people of this country. And with a dearth of both, the future looks bleak for the Congress party and its prospects in the upcoming elections.
