Cambridge Analytica whistleblower names Congress as one of their clients

The unending woes for the Congress continue. This time the whistleblower, Christopher Wylie who had kicked up a massive storm regarding ‘data theft’ by his fellow employer Cambridge Analytica, has now further exposed the already depleted Congress. He has deposed before the Parliament of India that the company had large scale operations in India and even had an office in India.

When asked to divulge further details the whistleblower mentioned that the consulting firm had actively worked for the Congress in India. He further clarified that his former employers might have worked for other parties also, but he is only aware of the Congress as one of the parties which worker in tandem with the Cambridge Analytica.

However, he does not remember any national project but he clarified that he knows about such regional projects. Christopher seemed quite convincing while deposing before the apex lawmaking body in the UK as he also exuded confidence about the fact that Cambridge Analytica does have offices and staff in India. He further added that he has documentary proof about the involvement between the Congress and Cambridge Analytica in India. It means that the Congress took help of the notorious consulting firm in all probability if we are to go by the whistleblower’s statement. Christopher confirmed this statement before the digital, culture, media and sport committee in the House of Commons.

This is bound to raise eyebrows as Christopher has on an earlier occassion mentioned that the approach of the company involved in a huge data leak has been that of a modern day coloniser. It has been usually involved in election campaigning. It has worked actively during elections in various countries and has also tried influencing them in an illegitimate manner. According to him, the company does not care about what is legal and what is not unless it gets its work done. Its working methodology is spreading disinformation and fake news in the favour of its client (in India’s case, the Congress).

It appears that the Congress’ misdeeds during the last one decade or so knew no bounds. During its tenure, it was almost always under the scanner for financial mismanagement and scams. However, now we are concerned with even more critical questions like national security and sovereignty of India. The IT Ministry has already shown the intent of taking action against the whole data leak fiasco and one must wait if more details eventually emerge about the Congress-Cambridge Analytica nexus. It would be horrendous if the Congress actually took the help of the Cambridge Analytica compromising India’s sovereignty and integrity. India’s democracy is not only cherished in India but is also respected as the world’s biggest democracy across the globe. However, it seems that the Congress faced with challenging proportions was (or maybe still is) on the way of trying to unlawfully influence the public’s verdict and dismantle the democratic set up of the country.
