Renuka Chowdhury explains why she laughed riotously as PM Modi spoke

Modi Renuka Chowdhury

There’s a famous couplet in Hindi, ‘Tete Paanv Pasaariye, Jeti Lambi Saur’ [Stretch your legs only to the limit of your blanket]. However, going by the current mood of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury, we seriously doubt if she even knows the meaning of it. Notorious for her jeering, she got a taste of their own medicine, when PM Narendra Modi, without exceeding his limits, gave an effective retort that left almost everyone in the Rajya Sabha in splits and Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury shell shocked.

Here’s what PM Modi said:

However, this is not the first time that Renuka Chaudhary has resorted to such mischief, for she is a habitual offender. Forget her hysterical laugh, which would break the concentration of even the most engrossed of the ascetics, this MP from Rajya Sabha is well known for not letting anybody with a sane voice be heard in the Parliament. How can we forget the way she heckled and insulted our legendary icon Sachin Tendulkar, just to assert her ideological supremacy? Going by the way she laughs, I’m surprised as to how Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who was one of the first victims to have endured this horror, managed to survive it!

Look at what Renuka Chowdhury did to RP Rudy:

Hence PM Modi deserves more applause than he has received for his epic comeback despite the continuous jeering and heckling he had to face in both the houses of the Parliament. Without being rude, giving such a clean and effective comeback is not the cup of tea for many, but that’s what defines PM Modi. Besides, he did not even refer as to whose laughter was he associating Renuka Chowdhury’s laugh with, but the way the Congress politicians have reacted to it, it seems that they know very well whose laughter does it resonate with.

Stung and stunned by the PM’s epic retort, Renuka Chowdhury refused to comment much for a whole day, and when she did, she resorted to what people like her at best at: playing the victim card when the bully is bullied.

In a press conference, Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury told the reporters of ANI: ‘…..He (PM Modi) has once made a long speech against Aadhar card publicly. Now he is saying that Aadhar was conceptualized when Advani Ji (Lal Krishna Advani) was there. This shocking claim made me laugh. He passed a personal comment against me. Denigrating a status of a woman is a crime. It is now established beyond doubt that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is against women. How can a Prime Minister speak like this? This shows his culture. I can’t go to that extent….’

Yes, you heard that right. Just for replying to Renuka Chowdhury’s mockery, PM Modi has been branded ‘anti women’. Some politicians might be so, but the country is not blind to not see the hypocrisy that this statement reeks of. If our memory serves us right, it was the BJP that initiated and is still taking the pains of implementing an anti-Triple Talaq Act, which can bring a huge relief to millions of taunted and oppressed Muslim women in this country. It is this very Congress, and the very Renuka Chowdhury who is branding Modi as ‘anti women’, who are actually being ‘anti women’ by not allowing the bill to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha.

Let us for the time being assume that PM Modi was factually off the mark and that his claims were wrong. What is the opposition’s duty in that case, reason with him or laugh hysterically and at dangerously high decibel levels? Whatever be the reason of dissent, Parliament is a sacred institution where information and ideas are discussed and exchanged with each other. Laughing is not bad but using laughter as a tool of trolling and heckling is absolutely callous. Bad defense Mrs. Chowdhary, drop the victim card please!
