After Durga Visarjan and Diwali, Another Major Hindu Festival is being Restricted

The year is 2017 and we, the Hindus, are confronted with an unprecedented attack on our culture and our traditions and our very civilization itself. 70 years of the Secular State have achieved what a thousand years of Islamic invasions could not. Hindus are banned from celebrating their festivals in the manner they see fit, our Traditions are being trampled upon by every vestige of the Secular State, our Temples are looted and their resources are diverted to fund the destruction of our own civilization, a demographic war is upon us and the ‘Eminent Citizens’ and the perfumed elites, who live in gated communities, are desperate to import Rohingyan Muslims into our country who are a definitive security threat to the security and prosperity of our nation.

350 years after Aurangzeb banned Diwali celebrations, the Judiciary of the Secular State of India has again banned the sale of crackers in the NCR region. The ban on Diwali crackers is only one in a series of attacks on our festivals by the Secular State. The restrictions on Dahi Handi, the ban on Jallikattu, the ban on Bullock Cart Races in Maharashtra, the list goes on and on. The Secular State governments are not far behind either. Mamata Banerjee has repeatedly tried to ban idol immersions during Vijaya Dashami as the dates clashed with Muharram and she eventually succeeded despite a Court order reversing her diktat.

The latest of our Hindu festivals to be attacked by the Secular State is the Chhat Puja.

The Darjeeling district administration has banned Chhat Puja celebrations in Siliguri on the bank of the Mahananda River citing environmental concerns after the recommendations of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Every year, a great number of devotees gather at the Banks of Mahananda to offer their prayers on the day. As expected, the order has caused a huge uproar among the local Hindu community who rightly claim it is an infringement of their religious rights. Mithilesh Mishra, the president of Bihari Yuva Chetna Samiti, said, “The ban is totally unfair, the river should not be polluted but there are other ways to ensure it’s clean. Chhath is a festival which promotes cleanliness and if by decorating and constructing ghats river is getting damaged then the committee will ensure the river will be cleaned but the ban is not justified”.

The matter of concern for Hindus here is that the ban on Chhat Puja in Siliguri comes after recommendations of the NGT.

The NGT is turning out to be a loose cannon the intentions of which do not seem entirely holy to put it mildly. The NGT seems to be working with a missionary zeal, both literally and figuratively, in ‘educating the unwashed heathens’ about environmental concerns. After Chhat Puja, the Eye of Sauron now turns to the traditional Hindu cremation. The NGT recommended the government in 2016 to find alternatives to traditional Hindu cremation because apparently, it emitted hazardous pollutants into the environment.

If the recommendations of the NGT could get a festival as important as Chhat Puja banned, how long before they come for cremations?

The RSS and the BJP on the other hand seem rather clueless about the imminent threat to our civilization. One would have expected the BJP to pass an ordinance allowing the sale of crackers during Diwali the banning of which has tremendously hurt the firecracker industry. Instead, we have some leaders from the BJP cheering the draconian Supreme Court judgment. If the RSS was serious about Hindu causes, then the least that could be expected of them was to have a dedicated legal wing to fend off threats from the PIL brigade but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Hindus have put great faith in Narendra Modi. And it’s about time that he justifies the faith that he has been trusted with by enacting laws that safeguard the celebration of our festivals. Otherwise, we might actually be looking at a ban on cremations five years down the line.

We are at a critical juncture of our history. Hindus must wake up and smell the coffee. We are being attacked because of our identity. Environmental concerns are merely a poorly concocted excuse to attack our festivals and our traditions to undermine our civilization. Liberal intellectuals like Shashi Tharoor do not even make an attempt to hide the fact that they are completely fine with animal slaughter during Islamic festivals but during Jallikattu, they suddenly discover a newfound love for animals. It’s high time that we realize that this whole Secularism thing isn’t working out too well for us Hindus. Hindus must realize that they cannot win a game that’s rigged against them, the smart thing to do is to throw away the pieces and burn the board.
