From the past 3 years, prestigious educational institutions of the country have erupted in rage for a number of reasons. But this unfounded anger is neither in the interest of the nation nor the Students Recently, Students from Varanasi’s premiere University ‘Banaras Hindu University (BHU)’ erupted in rage too, Police force had to be deployed to contain the unruly protestors. Violence will need to be contained and that’s what happened in BHU as well.

If we observe the developments in the last two days of this movement, one thing becomes very clear that this movements lacks purpose, the demands from the students haven’t been unanimous. There was demand for girls’ safety, then the removal of the VC, then fees, and then hostels. If Hostels, Fees, Safety and Security were needed to be discussed, why did they choose the day when the Prime Minister was in Varanasi? After all, there is nothing better than a good coverage!

BHU Students erupted in anger because of an alleged case of eve-teasing. 3 days ago while on her way to the hostel in BHU, a girl was teased by a group of boys. After this incident, the victim and her friends planned to sit on protest. Soon girls from other hostels joined the protest. Then the protest moved in front of the Lanka Gate of BHU campus.

Let us make it very clear that we oppose any incidents of Eve-Teasing in the BHU Campus and request the authorities to bring the culprits to book as soon as possible.

Protection of women, protection of girl students is important not only in the BHU campus but in any part of the country. Students of Triveni Hostel who started this movement, have themselves confessed that external elements have hijacked this movement! The movement that started for a noble cause has now become an instrument of propaganda. BHU Vice-Chancellor also said that in the name of a student movement, other colleges and people from outside are involved in the movement. Some of them even calling the shots.

The first demand of girls from the movement was that the Vice Chancellors meet these girls and assure security. BHU Vice Chancellor considered to meet them in the evening. The Vice-Chancellor himself spoke to a group of 10 girl students from among the girls who were agitating. BHU Chancellor heard everything the girls had to say. After meeting with the Vice Chancellor, their demands increased and took a different direction altogether.

They now demanded that the BHU Vice Chancellor should come and visit the hostel himself. Even after the Vice Chancellor accepted the demand to meet once and assure security, the students didn’t stop the protest because as per them the VC did not enter the hostel campus and interacted with “all” the students. At the same time, the news of the girl who shaved her head was planted well in the media, What we got to know is that she did not shave her head as protest but for some artwork.

But the thing to ponder over is why police force was needed to control a student movement in the BHU campus? When you think about it properly, only then the true story unfolds. These students got violent in the garb of a student movement. First, they argued with the security personnel and then beat them up. When the security personnel lathicharged them, they pelted stones. The security personnel were injured due to heavy stone pelting and some had to be taken to the hospital. In the middle of the night, some students hurled petrol bombs and even indulged in arson. They did not stop there, they set up vehicles parked outside the Singh gate of BHU, on fire. They even uprooted a police booth. When they were not satisfied with the widespread damage of public property, some of them stormed into Sir Sunderlal Hospital and pelted stones therein because of which patients were traumatized and Hospital staff got injured. After showcasing their criminal and violent instincts, a group of girls from the movement also tried to smear the statue of BHU founder Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya.

Think and decide is this how students behave? Is this a Students protest? What was the need of arsoning and Petrol bombs? Why the stone pelting? Why traumatize poor patients? Why terrorize hapless locals? Who in his right mind would disrespect Pt. Malviya one of the best nation builders ever.

And to the fake feminists if girls indulge in violent behavior – how should the authority stop them? Violence against girls is not the natural reaction of any security personnel in this country. But extraordinary circumstances require extraordinary measures. In My opinion, these student goons were no different from devotees of Ram Rahim, or Rampal who damaged government property, took law and order in their hands.
