The question, to be crisp, is not why did Rahul Gandhi meet the Chinese ambassador, Luo Zhaoui but why was the meeting kept under wraps. So much so, that when the news leaked out in the Indian media, basis an update on the Chinese Embassy webpage that was subsequently deleted, Congress spokespersons went on an overdrive decrying the news item as fake news and lambasting news channels running the report as wannabe bhakt channels.

What was so secretive about the meeting between the Chinese ambassador and a widely discredited political opponent of PM Narendra Modi that it could not be shared and acknowledged. What was the need for Congress Vice President to meet the Chinese ambassador at a time when Indo-Chinese relations are at an all time low with Chinese incursions on India-Bhutan-China trijunction.
It is also pertinent to note that Rahul Gandhi chose to label PM Modi as a weak PM a few days before he met the Chinese ambassador.
Realizing the soup they are in, Congress spokespersons and Rahul Gandhi are now questioning why government ministers met the Chinese while the incursions were on. They forget that unlike the meeting Rahul Gandhi had with the Chinese ambassador, the ministers met the Chinese publicly. The way the issue has been handled by the Congress party gives rise to many conspiracy theories.

A few days ago, an article in the Sunday guardian claimed that Modi’s massive win and Congress’s complete decimation in 2014 had led the Congress along with its Lutyens moles to adopt a policy of total war with Rahul Gandhi at its helm against the government and PM Narendra Modi.
The Biggest Objective has been to discredit PM Modi by sullying his image internationally. It is not without reason that one witnesses regular articles in international media lambasting Modi and the Indian government.
Another objective has been to spoil PM Modi’s image as a reformer by denying him Opposition’s support at critical junctures. This has been evident in the stormy sessions that Parliament has been witnessing. The ultimate objective has been to deny PM Modi another stint in 2019. Unfortunately for Rahul Gandhi and his coterie, PM Modi’s popularity ratings continue to be high and his party continues to taste electoral success. Globally too, PM Modi’s star seems to be on the ascendant.
Frustrated in their perfidious attempts so far, it seems Rahul Gandhi decided to be the Jaichand who sells out his nation to secure his own victory.
China is well known as a bully nation globally. It has border disputes with almost all of its neighbours. It has also fought wars, with varying success rates with many of its neighbouring countries. It is known to have trampled over rights of ethnic Tibetans, Turkestanis, Mongols and many other ethnicities. Even today, its government is engaged in repopulating non-Han homelands with ethnic Han Chinese to completely homogenize China, at the cost of less fortunate ethnicities.
No Indian, least of all Congress can forget how China backstabbed India even after years of Nehruvian ‘Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai’. Till 2003, China refused to recognize Sikkim as a part of India. Even recently, China threatened to encourage separatist movements in Sikkim if India did not hand over Bhutanese Doklam plateu to China. And as recently as today, Chinese dailies talked of ‘Third party’ intervening in Kashmir at Pakistan’s request. Given the sensitivity of the situation and the well known track record of the Chinese to foment internal trouble to gain ground by encouraging in-fighting, as they did in Nepal by supporting its Maoists, why did Rahul Gandhi meet the Chinese ambassador in secret?
After having been bested by PM Modi at every step and every electoral battle, perhaps Rahul Gandhi realizes the laughability of his dream to be the Prime Minister of India through democratic means in 2019. He realizes that he can’t ever be PM Modi‘s equal in terms of popularity, conscience, strategy or values. He therefore has to cosy up to India’s rivals in the vain hope that they would deal PM Modi a defeat which would make it impossible for him to return to power in 2019. The path to 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, for Rahul Gandhi lies through the Chinese Mandarins in Zhongnanhai and the Pakistani Army HQ at Rawalpindi. This is perhaps why Rahul Gandhi has been vocal about his support for every critic of PM Modi, especially those whose anti-India credentials are well-known.
