If we can moderate nationalist historian and radical independence activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s thought provoking quote, it still holds importance in today’s turbulent India. To quote him, ‘Any region or nation, found on the basis of institutional or regional hatred, will always be an eyesore for the neighbors.’
While the rest of India is exultant, as well as apprehensive, on the comprehensive victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 4 out of 5 poll bound states, with nationalist icon Yogi Adityanath coronated as the Honb. CM of politically the most important state among the five, i.e. Uttar Pradesh, the mainstream media, as usual, resorted to the means they’re well notorious for.
From character assassination, to rumor mongering [I hope Tunday kebabs are not forgotten], there’s nothing that the mainstream media has not resorted to, and systematically attempting to divert the attention from the superfast governance that the bold Mahant of Gorakshnath peeth [School of Thought] is actually delivering, ever since he took his place as the 21st Chief Minister of the Uttar Pradesh.
The media, to sum it up, hell bent on making a despot of Yogi, so much, that they’re actually ignoring at convenience, a soft-despot who has imbibed the mentioned quote of Veer Savarkar in body and soul. His name is Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao, the current Chief Minister of Telangana.
For those unaware, K. Chandrashekhar Rao is the same separatist who successfully partitioned Andhra Pradesh to create his own Telangana by 2014. Ignored by the mainstream media largely for his pseudo secular credentials, and apparently painted as a sort of messiah by the same, Mr. Rao is using this ignorance to his complete advantage, imposing dictatorial and communal legislations, with no room for dissent in the first instance.
One of such instances is the reservation in the government jobs and seats in educational institutions, with the introduction of an additional quota for Muslims, mind you, only MUSLIMS!
If the malaise of reservation wasn’t tortuous for the hard working Indian youth, now a reservation is being introduced, even if in a toddler state like Telangana, on a religious basis.
A quota of 12% for Muslims has been proposed, according to K. Chandrashekhar Rao, as per the Backward Classes Report.
This means that the number of opportunities available to the already oppressed general category will continue to shrink further, just to appease the over privileged minorities.
If you think this was the main event, this is just the beginning. When the proposal was introduced as a bill in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, 5 MLAs from Bharatiya Janata Party were suspended from the Assembly for two days. Reason?
They protested against the arbitrary bill that proposed the unjust increase in the quota, extending it to only Muslims.
Yes, for merely protesting against the draconian act, the speaker suspended the 5 BJP MLAs.
Seems like if the government is (pseudo) secular, every crime can be PARDONED! Is this 2017 or are we back in the Nizam era, where despite being the majority; the local Hindu population was oppressed by a handful of Islamic despots, assisted in their dirty games by the aristocratic Britishers.
To add salt to the wounds, K. Chandrashekhar Rao has boldly declared that if need be, he’ll ‘move heaven and earth to implement the Muslim quota’. Did we just hear that right? A Chief Minister of a sovereign Indian state will go to any length to make sure that one community is given undue privileges over others? Haven’t we born that enough for the last 27 years, since 1990? This wasn’t enough; Mr. Rao went on to say that he would even fight with the center, if necessary, to implement the draconian act. I hope Mr. Rao isn’t being tutored by unofficially ‘the Chief Minister of India.’
In only the second decade, where the world is moving towards the ideas of solar powered cars, empowerment to the solar majority, decisions like these only pull us back to the dark days of ‘Divide and Rule’. The oppression that the denizens of Telangana had to face during the Nizam rule, is now coming back to haunt them under the garb of secularism and liberal fraternity. To top that, the despotic show of dictatorship by Mr. K. Chandrashekhar Rao only signifies the fear he has in his mind for the vibrant forces of nationalism and inclusive democracy that is slowly regaining her rightful position in the Indian politics, under the watchful eyes of leaders like Narendra Modi, Manohar Parrikar, as the list goes on.
There is still time, Mr. Rao, you can make amends, if you have some sense ingrained, or you might end up face down like Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal have in the recent elections.
