PM Modi’s scathing attack on Manmohan Singh challenges the basic rules of Politics

PM Modi used his wit and sarcasm to the fullest in the Lok Sabha yesterday when he admonished the Congress Party for their stupid little revolution against Demonetisation and the government in general. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was a special target yesterday. PM Modi took a jibe at his earthquake remark. He even took on the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjuna Kharge as he asked him to reveal his source of information about black money in Real Estate and Jewellery.

Today he intensified his assault, when he chose to attack one of the holier cows in Indian Politics and certainly the holiest cow of the Congress Party. PM Modi’s scathing attack in the Rajya Sabha today challenges the basic rules of Politics. Holy Cows are never attacked. But Modi did. And mercilessly so.

No prizes for guessing, PM Modi took on Ex PM Manmohan Singh.

Before that, PM Modi went on to name the achievements of his government in his Rajya Sabha Address. From ensuring transparency in public procurement to increase in Urea production he named every single success story under his belt. Once again, he was critical of the Congress Party which has been critical of schemes even as useful as the Swachh Bharat Mission.

PM Modi also chastised the opposition for dragging the RBI into the attack on the government.

PM Modi then took on Ex-PM Manmohan Singh, this was possibly his sharpest attack on Manmohan Singh since his swearing in as the PM of India.

In his words – “Dr Manmohan Singh has been in key economic roles for almost half of India’s years of independence. No other person has wielded such enormous influence on this country’s economic policies like him. But, there was not a single allegation of corruption against him… Bathroom mein raincoat pehen kar nahaane ki kala sirf Dr. Sahab (Manmohan) hi jaante hain (only Manmohan Singh knows how to bathe in a raincoat)”.

This was too much for an already down and out Congress Party to take which then staged a walkout. But Modi used that to launch another blistering attack stating that if the Congress Party can breach decorum of the house, they should have the courage to listen to the response as well.

Manmohan Singh who is credited with the resurrection of Indian Economy at the onset of the 1990s lost much of his credibility when he chose to be a puppet in the hands of Sonia Gandhi. The tenure of UPA II saw a number of mammoth scams like 2G Scam, Commonwealth Scam and the biggest scam in the History of India, the Coalgate scam. All of these happened right under the nose of Dr. Manmohan Singh and ironically he is still hailed as one of the most honest “statesmen” of India. While the truth is that there are direct linkages between the Coalgate Scam and the Prime Minister Office under Dr. Singh.

PM Modi came prepared to attack at Manmohan Singh’s carefully tailored image and he did what he expected to do. The sheer frustration of Congress was apparent from their walkout.

PM Modi should be congratulated for challenging the basic rules of Politics, he demolished a holy cow of Politics today. Manmohan Singh has used his economist credentials and pleasant personality expertly to his advantage, He was disrobed today. From Coalgate to Mallya, Manmohan Singh has been a silent supporter of Institutionalized corruption. PM Modi unmasked him.

If PM Modi’s Lok Sabha speech was a jab on the face of the Congress Party, his Rajya Sabha address was a knockout punch.
