Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lal Krishna Advani have been on the opposite poles of electoral politics for long. However, their love for power, party and position seems to be bringing them in to the same basket of Indian politics.

Both Mulayam Singh and L K Advani can boost of a very eventful political journey of decades. Rifts, reconciliations and re-emergence marks the milestones of their journey towards the top. Indeed, both senior leaders today live with an unfulfilled desire of becoming the Prime Minister of India.

While Mulayam single handedly built Samajwadi party from literary nothing, Advani’s indispensable role in bringing BJP from 2 Lok Sabha seats to a major Political party cannot be ignored.

Ayodhya has been at the center of both their political careers. While being at the different ends of the spectrum, both Advani and MSY gained hugely out of 1992 demolition. Yadav fiercely opposed the BJP Patriarch at those times and was on the verge of stopping his Yatra and arresting him in Deoria, UP. Many years later In April 2013 Mulayam heaped praises on LK Advani during a public function in Varanasi and called him the tallest leader of the country

Mulayam also received much flak for combining forces with Kalyan Singh Yadav in 2009, incidentally this was four years after Advani has received similar treatment on calling Jinnah a ‘secular’ leader during his Pakistan visit.

As of today, Mulayam Singh Yadav is exhibiting traits comparable only with Advani’s reluctance to let go.

At the fore is another national convention of Samajwadi party much alike the National Executive of BJP in Goa in the year 2013.

If 2013, Goa national executive meeting was the first one that LK Advani gave a miss since formation of BJP. 1st January 2017, National Convention of the SP would be the first to be organized without permission or consent of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

That convention laid the foundation for end of Advani era in BJP.

Things on ground don’t look much brighter for Mulayam Singh Yadav as well.
