Here’s what PM Modi may announce tonight

Modi announcement tonight

After PM Modi’s last address to the nation:

So the numbers bear testimony to the fact that when PM Modi addresses the nation, the effects are earth-shattering. As people were busy bidding adieu to what has been an eventful year, PM Modi decided to make it even more interesting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation again, today at 7.30 pm. He is expected to roll out a long term plan for the country. The announcements are widely touted to be ‘gamechangers’ and have created enough media buzz already.

So what is he going to talk about? What are the big announcements going to be?

Here’s what we think Modi is going to announce tonight:

  1. Crackdown on Benaami Property – PM Modi gave enough hints about his resolution to crack down on the Benaami Property owners in his Goa speech shortly after Demonetisation. He even mentioned about cracking down on Benaami Propety in his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
  1. Explaining the benefit of Cashless Transactions – PM Modi has been pitching for a cashless economy right from the beginning, he may announce or even lay down some standard operating procedures for cashless transactions
  1. Tax Rebates – Arun Jaitley has already hinted at the fact that there may be ‘radical’ changes to existing taxation structure. Demonetisation has brought a lot of tax evaders to the taxation ecosystem, this can reduce the tax burden on the existing honest tax paying class. So PM Modi might announce Government’s intentions of easing up the Taxation structure tonight.
  1. Revealing demonetisation effects – There hasn’t been any official communication regarding the benefits of demonetisation. People of this country certainly need to know about the short and long term benefits of this 50 day exercise that they painfully endured. PM Modi may talk about this tonight as well.

Now let us talk about some more unconventional and radical things that Modi may announce tonight:

  1. One Nation, One Election – While implementation of One Nation, One Election remains Election Commission’s prerogative but this has been PM Modi’s dream project. He has mentioned many a times that because of separate elections, the nation remains in Perpetual Election mood. And separate elections have a devastating effect on Union Treasury.
  1. “Surprise Amount Credits” in Jan Dhan Account – This can be Modi’s Robin hood moment. He can go ahead and credit token amounts in Jan Dhan Accounts. But this uniquely populist measure also has the potential to upset Modi’s core voter base. PM Modi is a hero for the middle class, and in a highly unlikely event of Modi going all populist, his core base will be annoyed.

PM Modi is too slippery even for craftiest of journalists and all of the aforementioned points are mere speculations. All we can say is “Put your New year Parties on hold till 8:00PM, after that decide if you want to celebrate or simply drown your sorrows”
