BJP West bengal State President, Dilip Ghosh has waded into murky waters, after a speech where he is seen mocking West Bengal CM and Enfant Terrible, Mamata Banerjee went viral. Aside from taking potshots at her for her flop rallies in Delhi, Patna and elsewhere, Dilip Ghosh is heard saying that “she could have been pulled and dragged by ‘his police’ had the party wanted to do so”. For Mamata Banerjee, who has lately been on the losing side of things, Dilip Ghosh’s statement has come as a Godsend. Her Trinamool Congress has lashed out at Dilip Ghosh for issuing personal threats against the Chief Minister. The party in a statement condemned Dilip Ghosh for his abusive and Goonda like statements against Banerjee. Amongst all political parties in the country, if there is one party that has institutionalized political goondaism, while claiming to unleash Poriborton, it is the Trinamool Congress. TMC Supremo and West Bengal CM is well renowned for her propensity to threaten opponents with the choicest swear words. Her mercurial temper combined with her penchant to stoop to the lowest level to score a political point is legendary.
Therefore, while Amit Shah would do good to control his loud mouthed West Bengal BJP Chief Dilip Ghosh, TMC and Mamata Banerjee must surely do some self-introspection on how they have contributed to the lowering of public discourse in West Bengal.
For all her talks of Goondaraj, here is a woman, who in 2011, after her electoral victory walked into Bhowanipore Jail to free her supporters who had been jailed for creating a pandemonium during her victory rally. Then, in February 2013, the policemen in charge of her security were threatened with whipping for making her wait for 2-3 minutes. Sometime before that, she accused a college student, who grilled her on the deteriorating law and order, especially with regard to women of being a ‘Maoist’. Not only that, Mamata Banerjee, publicly asked the police to do a background check on those asking her uncomfortable questions. And as if all this wasn’t enough, Suzette Jordan, the survivor of a gang rape at Park Street was publicly labelled by the West Bengal CM, a woman herself, as a liar, who was trying to embarrass her government. Acting as the beacon of Women’s liberation that she is, Mamata Banerjee’s administration once stopped a women’s football match from taking place because it offended the maulvis. The ridiculous charge of army trying to stage a coup to topple her government recently made Mamata Banerjee the butt of public jokes. There is a pattern to all this. Mamata Banerjee is a megalomaniac, who suffers from grandiose delusions about herself and her powers. Like Nero, who played the flute while Rome burnt, Mamata Banerjee is crushing civil society, emasculating the law agencies and curbing the opposition, while West Bengal, slowly becomes Western Bangladesh. Incidentally, a Fatwa has also been issued against Dilip Ghosh for his remarks.
While there is no doubt that the TMC and Mamata Banerjee will play the woman card to corner Dilip Ghosh and the BJP, her dubious track record shows that this has no purpose other than to score political points. Mamata Banerjee has so dehumanized herself by her actions and her speeches that her words have become as meaningless as her actions. It is a pity that there is no light at the end of the dark, dreary tunnel for West Bengal. Perhaps, like she once taunted her opponents, her government needs a firm ‘Danda on the backside’
