A friend of mine once narrated the story of his boss. The boss who wasn’t particularly interested in his work but got annoyed as soon as the project got a bad feedback from the stakeholders. He was mostly kept out of loop and whenever he was looped in, he was shown fanciful numbers and stats to keep him happy and away.
Such bosses are everywhere. Bosses who do nothing but have no ears for bad feedback. Rahul Gandhi happens to be one too. His pet project Indian National Congress that he bagged purely based on his lineage sunk to newer depths ever since he took its reins in his hands. And it sunk to a historical low in 2014 when Congress received a drubbing at the hands of Modi led BJP and shrunk to 44 seats in the Lok Sabha. Since then it has been on a losing spree. And party sycophants have tried their best to dissociate Rahul Gandhi from the losses.
Now Rahul Gandhi must have been a thoroughly unhappy man, like the boss that we read about earlier. So the toadies have painted a dream world for him.
Here’s what a Rediff report says:
An internal survey carried out by the Congress Party reveals that it will do well if the Lok Sabha elections are conducted now. The survey estimates that the Congress will get more than 200 seats out of the 545 seats in the Lok Sabha. The Congress has just got 44 seats in the LS in the 2014 polls.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is said to have been overwhelmed by the survey, and now he has instructed the team to work towards the 300 Lok Sabha seats target. The next national elections are in 2019.
You get the drift, right?
Now the survey was conducted by the “internal team” in the Delhi-Noida area and based on the findings Congress Party wasted no time in painting the findings as the results of people’s ire against demonetisation and Rahul Gandhi’s charismatic leadership.
Narendra Modi has been running a popular government. The global stature of India is at an all-time high. Pakistan is being dealt in the method it deserves and understands. China’s incursions are a thing of the past. Ministers like Goyal, Prabhu, Gadkari and Sushma Swaraj have been delivering powerhouse performances. Parrikar has given a free hand to the army. Demonetisation which had the potential to bring the nation on the verge of an internal strife has been a peaceful process till now and Modi’s trust ratings have not dented one bit. And here’s congress thinking about 300 seats in 2019.
Politics is often funny and occasionally cruel. While the fun in the survey is evident. It is laughable that a belief as wild as Congress winning 200+ seats in General Elections 2019 made it to the public domain but the underlying cruelty cannot be ignored too. Remember one balmy afternoon in 2004 changed the fate of the nation. Vajpayee had run a popular government and no one expected Indian Nation Congress to return at the national scene. But it did.
