Nawaz Sharif’s 20 minute long anti-India rant at the UNGA session was pure boloney. From raking up Kashmir, to glorifying slain Hizbul commander Burhan Wani as a “young leader” to softly declaring that Pakistan is a N-nation, Sharif touched based with everything that defines Pakistan and the sorry state of it. Sharif also brought the plebiscite debate on the table and reaffirmed his total support for the struggle of the Kashmiris. He even talked about a dossier full of proofs about India’s role in atrocities against Kashmiris. And then he advocated peace and the need for a peaceful dialogue between the two countries for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

India’s response to Sharif’s UNGA rant:
India reaffirmed its stand too, that of considering Pakistan a terrorist nation. India called Pakistan, a host to the Ivy League of terrorism. India accused Pakistan of channelizing billions of dollars, much of it diverted from international aid to the training and support of Terror groups. India raised a big question mark on Pakistan’s nuclear proliferation record. India also took a dig at Pakistan’s newfound love for Human rights. India said that Pakistan preaches human rights and talks about the apparent support for self-determination while terrorizing their own people.
UN rejects Pakistan’s anti-India dossier:
Nawaz Sharif was royally rejected by United Nations Secretary General Ban ki Moon as the latter dismissed Pakistan’s Kashmir rhetoric at the UNGA session. Ban Ki moon brushed aside Pakistan’s dossier against India, thereby clearly hinting at the mood of the United Nations. In the words of the UN Secretary General – “The Secretary-General stressed the need for Pakistan and India to address their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, through dialogue in the interest of both countries and the region as a whole.”
China distances itself from reports of Li Keqiang’s backing to Pakistan
This was an absolute shocker for Pakistan. Their so called “all-weather” ally ditched them when it was actively trying to gather support for itself. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang issued a statement, which stated:
“Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council met with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on September 21 in New York. They exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of common interest.
The issue of Kashmir is an issue left over from history. Our stance on that is consistent. We hope that parties concerned will pursue a peaceful settlement through dialogue”.
This statement came when Pakistan and its press were busy circulating the fake news that Li had assured that China would continue to support Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir.
India Hints at rethinking over Indus Water Treaty
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said “I am sure you are aware that there are differences between India and Pakistan on the implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty, for any such treaty to work, it is important there must be mutual trust and cooperation. It can’t be a one-sided affair”. This clearly ascertains the fact that India might cut off Indus water if Pakistan doesn’t act. India presently has at least 30 days of storage capacity which can be exercised in reducing or flooding of Indus water in Pakistan plains.
As the army prepares itself for a suitable and proportional retaliation, India has done quite well to alienate Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif’s rant at the UNGA was the perfect icing on the cake. Desperation brings the best in people sometimes; in Sharif’s case it brought the worst.
