The self-proclaimed messiah of Delhi, Kejriwal embarked on an electoral tour to the state of Punjab this Thursday amid massive protests even as he was boarding the train bound for Ludhiana.
On reaching his destination he was again greeted by similar protests, this time by his own party cadres regarding the grave issue of harassment of women workers within the Aam Aadmi Party.
In fact, Kejriwal had returned from Rome on 6th September and on the 8th of this month he went away on this tour and he is scheduled to proceed to Bangalore from there for naturopathy for 10 days.
Thus, governance of Delhi seems to be by far the least prioritized matter in Kejriwal’s busy schedule.
This is not for the first time that Kejriwal has left his electors for his personal ambitions and this seems to be a corroboration of the making of an unaccountable Chief Minister who no longer replies to issue of public interest but opts for an aggressive stance necessarily resulting in counter allegations.
Thus, we list down reasons as to why this is a worrisome pattern given the past record of Kejriwal and why Kejriwal’s continued absence could not have come at a more critical juncture.
Past record of Kejriwal:
Kejriwal had started his public life as an Indian Revenue Services officer in 1995 but went on to resign from Service as the Joint Commissioner of the IT Department, New Delhi in February 2006.
Thereafter, he became an RTI Activist and founded the Public Cause Research Foundation together with Manish Sisodia and Abhinandan Sekhri but this activism did not remain active for long and in 2011, Kejriwal joined several other activists in the Jan Lokpal Movement and formed the India Against Courruption (IAC) group.
Even as the movement had not been brought to a logical conclusion, Kejriwal took the decision of entering active politics and this ultimately resulted in the breaking down of the IAC.
Thereafter, in 2014 Kejriwal emerged victorious in the Delhi Assembly Elections and became a CM by forging an alliance with the INC but went on to resign after 49 days.
Thus, the public life of Kejriwal hints at one set pattern, the Delhi CM has an incessant tendency of not discharging his responsibility in a proper manner. He never takes any role that he is assigned or he has voluntarily taken up to its logical conclusion.
As far as his current tenure is concerned he seems to have reached that stage where he is no longer interested to govern Delhi and is visibly more interested in expanding the base of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Punjab Election tour is a testimony to the same.
Delhi in distress:
Today, Delhi is facing all sorts of problems at all fronts. The annual flooding of the Delhi roads in the Monsoons and the harassment that the Delhites go on to face due to such rains cannot be overemphasized.
At a time when Delhi is suffering from an influx in the Dengue cases and a spike in such other seasonal diseases, the Kejriwal Government seems completely disinterested in tackling the menace.
On an administrative front, the Delhi High Court verdict declaring the Lieutenant Governor as the administrative head of Delhi and also observing that Delhi remains to be a Union Territory is a massive fallout in the sense that since the Delhi Government had taken several key decisions without taking the consent of the Lieutenant Governor, the constitutional validity of all such decisions would be under great suspicion.
This has been further aggravated by the fact that the Delhi High Court has quashed the appointment of 21 Parliamentary Secretaries by the Delhi Government solely on the ground that the order regarding the same was passed without the consent of the Lieutenant Governor. Thus, Delhi is going through a situation of constitutional impasse.
Conclusion:
Kejriwal is facing all sorts of problems both at a political and governmental level. The Sandeep Kumar CD leak and the lies which were then rolled out by the AAP regarding his expulsion as a Minister even though the former Minister had resigned as a Minister also raises a serious question on the character of AAP.
There are several pertinent questions that Kejriwal was supposed to answer but Kejriwal continues to deny all answers to his electors and the painful saga of unaccountability and lack of answerability under the Delhi Government continues. Looks like he is least bit concerned, mentally he might has already left Delhi.
