Delhi won’t have a Government for sometime

The self-proclaimed anti-corruption crusader, leader of ‘clean public centred politics’ of India, and Delhi Chief Minister Sh. Arvind Kejriwal returned to Delhi after 10 day Vipassana break.

An ordinary Delhitte would have hoped that the self-proclaimed anti-corruption crusader along with his Cabinet Ministers would start off by dealing with some of the major problems faced by the citizens of Delhi including heavy water logging with every Monsoon shower, surge in dengue cases, unfulfilled poll promises, Constitutional impasse among many others.

But the Delhi CM Kejriwal had other plans. He is now set to make an attempt at Kejrification of three poll bound states, viz. Goa, Gujarat and Punjab. This entails appointment of major ministers as ‘Prawari’ for the poll bound states.

While Kejriwal will himself look after the state of Punjab, deputy chief minister Sisodia and health minister Satendra Jain will look into the affairs of Goa. Similarly, the water Minister Kapil Mishra will no longer be involved in governance of Delhi but will be the political manager of Gujarat along with AAP leader Ashutosh.

Thus, Kejriwal and his ministers are set to be busy in their political assignments and the National Capital is set to bear the brunt of the same and the already misgoverned Union Territory is going to be further hit.

We therefore list down the reasons as to why the current expansion model of the AAP constitutes a betrayal of the mandate of the citizens of Delhi:

Rising dengue cases and uncontrollable water logging in Delhi:

A surge in the Dengue cases during the course of monsoon rains has been a cause of worry for the residents for the last several years. This year the surge has been threatening especially in the face of an unprepared and uninterested Government while there were 23 Dengue cases by 6th August in 2014, the same number had risen to 119 last year at the same time and this year it has inflated to 171.

This is indeed a great cause of worry for any Government and a responsible government is supposed to stay on strict vigil at such point of time. This is exactly what the Delhi Government and Delhi CM has not done. The Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers seem to be more interested in making the AAP a national phenomenon rather than taking control of the grave situation.

It is ironical how the deputy chief minister had mocked the Haryana Government when Gurugram had fallen under the weight of heavy monsoon rains even as the National Capital continues to reel under such rains.

Constitutional impasse:

No matter how much the Delhi CM and AAP denies it the Delhi Government has misconstrued its own role, whether deliberately or accidentally. The Government of National Capital Territory of Dehi was never supposed to act like a State Government but as Union Territory under the control of its administrative head, the Lieutenant Governor.

This position has now also been clearly elucidated by the Delhi High Court. Given that a host of decisions were taken by the Delhi Government ever since it came to power without the consent of the Lt. Governor is set to have a major impact on the governance of Delhi.

This should have been one of the major priorities of the CM to steer clear of this impasse and bring about an understanding with the Centre. This too has been sacrificed for political ambitions.

Unfulfilled poll promises:

It is a mockery of our democratic values as to how a party storms into power on certain poll promises in a documented manner and a couple of years down the line it forgets the same and tries to erase it from public memory leave alone the question of delivering on them.

Delhi Government and its supporters are doing the same they are not leaving a stone unturned to divert public attention from their pre poll promises. Ambitious political expansion on the cost of governance in a background of a plethora of unfulfilled poll promises only suggests deceit and betrayal on the part of Delhi Government and its ministers.

Conclusion:

If the last two years of Delhi Government saw compromise by Kejriwal on his principles or postulates including the much hyped anti corruption agenda, the current poll mode of Delhi is going to corroborate the painful transformation of AAP and Kejriwal as ultra urban versions of the RJD and Lalu Prasad Yadav.
