Arunachal Pradesh Acting Governor’s hilarious letter to CM Tuki

In the back of Uttarakhand verdict, now SC has ruled in favour of Nabam Tuki to be reinstated as the CM of Arunachal Pradesh, means both Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, the Centre lost to Judiciary. What is funny is that this is despite when Tuki is not having the numbers in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, so now Kalikho Pul will make a review petition based on that.

What is clear is this Government is losing many a battle with the Judiciary, and the Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi is creating a record of sorts in losing legal battles for the Government.

While judicial activism and excesses are on the rise, the Centre needs to handle this much better and with the new Law Minister, hope this would change.

But this is not what this write up is about.

A day after the Supreme Court reinstated the Tuki Government in Arunachal Pradesh, acting Governor Tathagata Roy asked Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to prove his majority on the floor of the House on Saturday. Tuki called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Itanagar where they discussed on overall development of the state and law and order issues. They discussed on the ensuing floor test in the State Legislative Assembly to be assembled on Saturday.

CM Tuki sought at least 10 days time to convene the assembly. He said that MLAs won’t be able to attend the session on time, Tuki requested the governor to postpone the floor test.

“I met the Governor just now and submitted my representation requesting him to give sufficient time for the floor test,” Tuki told the media outside the Raj Bhavan.

But Arunachal Pradesh Governor nailed the CM in his letter, which is both hilarious and logical at the same time.

Dear Shri Nabam Tuki, Chief Minister

1. I thank you and your Home Minister for your kind visit to the Raj Bhavan on 15/7/2016 at 1 PM. I congratulate you on your resumption as Chief Minister in obedience of the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order.
2. I have given my most careful consideration to your request for not summoning the State Legislative Assembly immediately for the purpose of proving your majority on the floor of the House. I have also taken note of your DO. no. CM (AP)-10/2016 dated 14/7/2016 received at Raj Bhavan at 11:30 AM on 15/07/2016 and no. CM (AP)/02/2016 dated 15/07/2016.
3. I regret I am not in a position to agree with your submission made in your above letters and during our meeting. You appear to have contended that the notice given to you for summoning the Assembly is too short, for certain reasons.
   • With the means of transport and communication now available, I do not see much difficulty in your MLAs attending a session on 16/07/2016. Monsoon will not abate as days go on but intensify. These may lead to landslides and/or heavy fog in the coming days. Thus it is quite possible that granting more time may worsen things.
   • I do not consider it to be a serious objection at all. We all do things on a holiday when circumstances so warrant.
