Indian media was at it again. Unleashing hit jobs of the worst standards is certainly something the mainstream media would be proud of. From Jasleen Kaur’s fake molestation case, to Narendra Modi’s Somalia content, the Indian media is more interested in the downfall of the incumbent government, than their rise. Now the latest hit job by the mainstream media was aimed at their favorite whipping boy, the HRD minister, Smriti Irani. Even though she managed to give a well thought reply to all, through her Facebook salvo, sometimes I wonder, deep in my heart: do we really deserve this woman?
Born to a Bengali mother and a Punjabi Khatri father, on 23rd July 1976, Smriti Irani has had rather humble beginnings. Even though she was from an upper middle class family, she chose to struggle to make it to the big screen. Once, Smriti had to even mop the floors of a restaurant to earn supplementary income. She got her first big break in Star Plus’ serial Aatish, and slowly, but steadily, she became the face of Star Plus, through the show, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahut Thi’ She had joined BJP in 2003, and soon rose to the ranks of becoming the HRD minister in 2014’s NDA government. Isn’t that an inspirational story? For the left wingers, and the intellectual terrorists, probably not.
Smriti Irani is probably one of the most underrated ministers of the NDA government. She has been on the radar of the intellectual terrorists’ brigade, much before Narendra Modi even ascended the chair of the Prime Minister in 2014. During the protests for Nirbhaya, when Smriti Irani protested against the laxity of the Delhi and the Central Government on the issue, Congressman Sanjay Nirupam, calling her, ‘Woh TV pe thumke lagane waali!’ It’s true, that Smriti Irani has been a part of some of the most tortuous shows under the banner of Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms. However, that does not give anyone the right to objectify her like that. But who cares?
Cut to 2016. Smriti, who was already under fire for her unflinching and genuine support to the patriots, in their cause against the seditionist students of Jawahar Lal Nehru University, allegedly raked up a controversy, when Bihar education minister Ashok Chaudhary, from the Congress Party, addressed her as ‘Dear Smriti ji.’ To which she replied back, ‘Since when did you start addressing women as dear Ashok ji’. Now even a layman would deduce that Smriti was not used to hear this from Mr. Chaudhary in particular. But no, the media had got their fodder. The mainstream media castigated Smriti Irani for allegedly manhandling this minister, and almost the whole clan of intellectual terrorists stood in support of Ashok Chaudhary, caring two hoots about what Smriti Irani intended. Isn’t that the same mentality, which the British had, when deciding on the fate of Bhagat Singh and his comrades? Already making up your mind, without a second thought to sanity? That’s mainstream media and the Indian intellectual terrorists for you.
Irritated by the rants, Smriti Irani could have chose to remain silent. However, there is a limit to everything. Since the haters had crossed their limit, Smriti Irani went all out in a Facebook post.
Partly describing her own journey, and partly describing the women’s stigmas, she lashed out at the political hypocrites, and even to those, who instead of supporting her cause, would ask to stay silent to the haters, saying ‘Nuksaan aap ka hoga, unka kuch Nahin hoga’ (You will be harmed, they shall not be troubled at all). Following are some of the excerpts from her FB Salvo:-
‘Growing up in a middle class environment (Lutyen’s zone excluded), many girls who would walk to school / college and back home every day, go to the bazaar to get groceries and adequate sabzi in a given budget, would often be told if accosted by a boy or a bunch of them, don’t look up and keep walking straight. ……..But there would be those rebellious kinds (yours truly included), who would question why? Why zip it? The standard answer such a question begets is “It is not worth it. Nuksaan tumhara hoga , ladke ka kuch nahi bigadega’
Smriti ji is right, why zip it? If somebody troubles me, okay I shall ignore once, maybe twice, or even thrice, but not everytime, no? Then why women have to endure all the crap mouthed by the self proclaimed protectors of the Indian society, who leave no stone unturned to allegedly protect the real culprits. Probably the request of Narendra Modi on the Independence Day address of 2014, to keep a check on the boys, has fallen on deaf ears. But Modi ji was right as well. Why girls should be taught not to be assaulted. Can’t we, as boys, prevent ourselves from going too far?
Another excerpt points out her own frustration at being mocked despite serving to the best of her abilities:-
You become possibly the youngest ever woman to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha, speak on issues ranging from the budget to women’s security. You represent your Nation in the International Parliamentary Union, …….,become part of the drafting committee on the Syrian crisis and yet some “intellectual” says “anpadh” the minute you are given the opportunity to serve as HRD Minister, and suddenly the rules change. You, the creature who on every podium exalts the right of women to speak their mind is told don’t speak your mind. Ignore the trolls no matter how high they serve in their political systems. Ignore public attempts to humiliate you through sexual innuendos “kyunki nuksaan tumhara hoga unka kuch nahi bigadega’
Well, the statement of ‘Kyunki nuksaan tumhara hoga…….’is not only ironic, but also infuriating, to say the least. I mean, no doubt, we are the proud harbingers of ahimsa. But what is the use of the same, if it only teaches you to be submissive, to tolerate injustice and nothing else? Yes, we should ignore the barbs, but only to an extent. There is no hard and fast rule to keep on tolerating; it only makes us a coward, which is exactly what Smriti Irani wants to impart us.
Also, in the same post, Smriti Irani listed her achievements, as of now, as the HRD minister. Some of her achievements include the following:-
- A mentoring and scholarship program to send our girls to technical institutes- UDAAN
- All teachers trained in inclusive education to facilitate students with special needs
- 10,000 undegraduate scholarships and exposure visits for students from the Northeastunder Ishan Uday and Ishan Vikas
- Focused interventions to improve Math and Science levels- Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan
- Focused interventions to improve reading and writing levels- Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat
Besides the listed ones, Smriti Irani has also personally helped, like in the case of External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, in solving some cases, where genuine help is needed. For example, one college professor, Bhumika Shah, was accosted by a stalker, who sent lewd messages to her and 50 other students on their personal cell phones. Even though she filed a case, the police, as allegedly expected, refused to help her. She then tweeted to Smriti Irani and the PMO. Taking the case on a personal basis, Smriti Irani not only saved Bhumika, but also the 50 other women from the stalker, within 24 hours. As of now, that loser is in jail. Yet, some idiots (morons to be precise) that Smriti Irani should be sacked. In this context, I would to love to quote a Modi fan, Shri Abhishek Mishra’s dialogue, ‘No matter how much you put Dove or Lux on a buffalo, the buffalo will still love the mud and grime!’
It’s sad on our part to learn, that while Smriti Irani is leaving no stone unturned to expose the Left-Pseudo Secular nexus, apart from setting milestones on the road to development, is not getting the respect she deserves. It is in this context, that I asked the question: do we really deserve her? For the ones, who manage to make it, despite the slugfest, including me, we DO DESERVE HER! However, given the constant trolling this lady is subjected to, I have my own doubts.
